From Scholarships to Sea Turtles: How Marywood Launched Traci Warholic’s Dream Career

For Traci Warholic, choosing Marywood University came down to something practical—excellent scholarships. But what she found once she arrived was something deeper: a university experience that would challenge, shape, and ultimately empower her future in more ways than she could have imagined.

“I originally wanted to attend a different school, but I chose Marywood instead—and I’m so glad I did,” Traci reflects. “It played a crucial role in my personal growth, teaching me invaluable lessons—some of them hard—that have been essential in shaping who I am today, both personally and professionally.”

During her time at Marywood, Traci was an active member of the Pugwash Environmental Club, an experience that aligned with her growing passion for conservation and environmental work. She also credits Dr. Jay P. Clymer, III as the most influential figure in her academic journey. “His guidance and mentorship made a lasting impact on me,” she said.

Today, Traci is living a dream that many only imagine—working as an Environmental Scientist for Whitetail Environmental, LLC., with a life and career that has taken her across the country and ultimately allowed her to settle in Hawaii, all while continuing to explore new places and revisit favorite destinations.

“My proudest professional accomplishment is the career success that has allowed me to travel extensively and build a life in Hawaii while doing work that I care deeply about,” she shared. Her involvement with organizations like the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation and the American Fisheries Society speaks to her ongoing commitment to preserving the environment and protecting marine ecosystems.

Traci believes that her time at Marywood laid the groundwork for her career: “My education gave me the essential foundation I needed to secure a position in my desired field. It’s what got me here.”

Looking at how the college experience has evolved since her graduation, she notes that Marywood—like the world—has continued to adapt. “I believe the university experience has continuously evolved to meet the changing needs of our environment and the times.”

When asked what advice she would offer to current Marywood students, Traci doesn’t hesitate: “Make the most of your time at Marywood. Fully embrace the education and experiences offered. Take advantage of the countless opportunities and resources available to you—these will be key to your personal and professional growth.”
