    Applying for International Students

    There is a $50 application fee when you submit through the Marywood online application, Common Application, and via a paper application. If you wish to complete a paper application, please download it here to print it.

    Undergraduate International

    Please note that application deadlines may vary by program or change over time. Always refer to the official program website for the most accurate and up-to-date information at the time of your application. Below are the typical application deadlines for submission:

    • Fall Semester (starting in August): Submit documents by Jun. 1.
    • Spring Semester (starting in January): Submit documents by Nov. 1.

    Step 1. Applicant upload the following documents:

    • Personal Statement
    • A copy of the Passport
    • Resume

    Step 2. Another individual, instead of the applicant, submit the following documents:

    • 2-3 letters of recommendation, must be sent directly from the recommender.
    • Official transcripts, must be sent directly from the counselor at the institution. Transcripts from the bachelor's program and all previous institutions are required.
    • English proficiency test scores, must be sent directly from the testing agency to Marywood University. One score report from TOEFL, IELTS, PTE, or Duolingo. These documents may be emailed to internationaladm@marywood.edu or mail to: Marywood University, International Admissions, 2300 Adams Ave, Scranton, PA 18509, USA.

    Step 3. Only applicants admitted to the on-campus program will be required to upload the following documents:

    Include original, unopened transcripts of all academic work, including transfer coursework. Transcripts should be sent from the issuing high school or college to Marywood University. An official high school or college signature or seal must appear across the back flap of the unopened envelope.  Applications will not be considered without official transcripts. 

    Translation of Non-English Transcripts
    In addition to sending official transcripts, all non-English transcripts must be translated by a certified translator such as World Education Services, Educational Credential Evaluators and International Education Evaluations, LLC.  All information on the transcript must be translated verbatim.

    Marywood University requires that prospective undergraduate students achieve one of the following English proficiency requirements:

    • Minimum TOEFL score: 71 
    • Minimum IELTS band score of 5.5 
    • Minimum PTE Academic score: 48 
    • Minimum Duolingo score: 90

    Please submit official English proficiency scores taken within the last two years.

    Submit an essay of at least 250 words.

    Essay topics may include:

    • Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.  
    • The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?
    • Reflect on a time when you questioned or challenged a belief or idea. What prompted your thinking? What was the outcome?
    • Describe a problem you've solved or a problem you'd like to solve. It can be an intellectual challenge, a research query, an ethical dilemma - anything that is of personal importance, no matter the scale. Explain its significance to you and what steps you took or could be taken to identify a solution.
    • Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others.
    • Describe a topic, idea, or concept you find so engaging that it makes you lose all track of time. Why does it captivate you? What or who do you turn to when you want to learn more?
    • Share an essay on any topic of your choice. It can be one you've already written, one that responds to a different prompt, or one of your own design.

    Financial documents, including the Certificate of Finances and bank statements, are only required if the applicant is admitted. They are not needed for the initial review process.

    • These two financial documents are necessary for issuing the I-20 and for the subsequent F-1 visa application.
    • Both documents must be issued within 60 days of submission and must reflect financial information from the most recent 60-day period.
    • Please ensure that the information on both the bank statement and the Certificate of Finance is consistent. The total certified amount on the Certificate of Finance CANNOT exceed the total amount shown in the liquid accounts on the bank document.

    Although international students are not eligible to receive federal and state financial assistance, Marywood University does offer scholarships to international students based on merit. Marywood does not offer full tuition scholarships, however partial scholarships are available. Currently, students may qualify for up to $25,000 per year, with the highest amount going to the most academically talented students.

    Please note that tuition and supply costs may vary by program and are subject to change over time. Living expenses can also differ significantly depending on your choice of housing. For the most accurate and up-to-date information at the time of your application, always refer to the relevant official website or reach out the international admission office.     Before Beginning the Application Process

    • Nutrition and Dietetics Internships/Distance Education Dietetic Internship Applicants:
      Submit application through Dietetic Internship Centralized Application Services (DICAS) and also complete the Dietetic Internship Match through D & D Digital.
    • Physician Assistant Applicants: Must submit the application for admission through the Central Application Service for Physician Assistants (CASPA).

Letters should be sent to Marywood University's Office of Graduate Admissions with an official signature across the sealed flap of the envelope.  Reference forms can also be submitted electronically via the online application. If you have not attended college for three or more years, please contact the Office of Graduate Admissions for guidance.

      Translation of Non-English Transcripts
      In addition to sending official transcripts, all non-English transcripts must be translated by a certified translator such as World Education Services, Educational Credential Evaluators, and International Education Evaluations, LLC.       Tuition and Fees

      I was unable to upload my transcript, recommendation letter, and English test scores. How can I submit them?

      For your recommendation letter, please have your recommender send it directly. Official transcripts should be sent by your institution's counselor, and your English proficiency scores need to come directly from the testing agency. All these documents can be conveniently emailed to internationaladm@marywood.edu or mailed to:

      As an international applicant, which scholarships may I be eligible for and how I can apply?

      For undergraduate programs, Marywood University offers merit-based partial scholarships to outstanding international students. Please note that you will be automatically considered for these scholarships when you apply—no separate application is required. For graduate students, scholarships are available in the form of Graduate Assistantships. Typically, students must first be accepted into a graduate program and be physically present on campus before applying for these positions.       Does Marywood University issue an I-20 for all accepted international students?

      Marywood University issues the Form I-20 only for students enrolled in on-campus programs. I-20s are not available for students admitted to fully online programs.

      What are the next steps after receiving my I-20?

      After receiving your I-20, promptly schedule your F-1 visa appointment to ensure you receive your visa in time to arrive on campus before the start of the academic term. Failure to arrive and enroll on time may result in withdrawal from the program and cancellation of your visa.

      What are the next steps if my F-1 visa is approved?

      Once your F-1 visa is approved, please notify us promptly via email at internationaladm@marywood.edu. Be sure to review and complete the "Pre-Arrival Checklist for Prospective International Students" to ensure you are fully prepared for your arrival on campus.

      What are the next steps if my F-1 visa is denied?

      Please note that the SEVIS fee remains valid for 12 months from the date of payment. You may reschedule your F-1 visa appointment at a later date to obtain your visa. If you continue to experience difficulties and are unable to secure your visa, and you are a first-time student at Marywood University, you may consider deferring your enrollment.

      What is the deferral process, and how do I go about it?

      We offer first-time students a one-time opportunity to defer their admission to a later available semester within one year. All deferral requests must be submitted at least one week before the start of the semester. Failure to complete the deferral process on time will result in withdrawal from the program.

      As you prepare for your arrival on campus, there are a few important matters to take care of. Please note that the steps below are handled by specific departments, so you are encouraged to directly contact them for the most accurate support and guidance.
