From Studio to Self-Expression: Devon O’Keefe’s Creative Journey
At Marywood University, Devon, a 2012 graduate in Illustration and Fine Art, began building the artistic foundation that would eventually lead to a thriving creative career. Today, Devon is the Owner and Founder of Liminal Ink & Art, a studio rooted in self-expression and community-driven creativity.
When choosing a college, Devon was guided by a strong reputation. “I heard from friends and family that the art program was phenomenal,” he recalls—an impression that would prove true throughout his time on campus.
A defining influence during those years came from a faculty mentor. “My illustration professor Dennis Corrigan easily had the biggest impact,” Devon shares, pointing to the importance of mentorship in shaping both artistic direction and confidence.
That foundation has translated into meaningful professional success. “Founding and thriving my studio, Liminal,” Devon says, stands as his proudest accomplishment so far. The studio reflects not only technical skill, but also a deeply developed artistic voice—something he credits to his time at Marywood. “It gave me the inspiration and space to create, find my voice, and share my art with the world.”
Beyond technique, Devon emphasizes the personal growth fostered through the University’s art community. “The art program gave me a healthy competitive edge, as well as a sense of community among artists,” he explains, highlighting the balance between challenge and support that defined his experience.
Outside the classroom, Devon was deeply engaged in creative and community-focused work. “I was the Music and Art Pastor at a local church. I painted community murals and commissioned work,” he says—early experiences that blended artistic practice with public engagement.
Looking at Marywood today, Devon sees continued evolution. “From what I hear, it's been growing and expanding, becoming more inclusive to different art styles,” he notes, recognizing the University’s efforts to adapt to an ever-changing creative landscape.
His passion for community-centered art continues through his current work. “My studio Liminal is hosting a series of themed gallery events throughout the year, which includes themed tattoo flash, gallery exhibitions, and art installations,” Devon shares—an initiative that brings artists and audiences together in immersive, collaborative ways.
For current students, Devon offers advice grounded in both experience and conviction: “Take chances, don't trade your creative energy for something that will drain your mental health. Artists are extremely important. We shape societies, build culture, and commune with the Divine.”
