During my first week at Marywood, I auditioned for the main stage production and was cast. I also lectured at mass on that Sunday right after move-in. I got involved right ...
Whether you want to take center stage or work behind the scenes, you will be prepared for any type of theatrical employment with a Musical Theatre degree. Marywood's ensemble philosophy is the foundation of the program, so students have opportunities to participate in all aspects of production.
Combining music and theatre, the program promotes these objectives:
Introducing students to the technical facilities of musical theatre;
Familiarizing students with the standards required for an effective theatrical or musical performance;
Developing students' skills in various theatrical roles;
Providing students with a comprehensive musical theatre experience.
Each year Marywood University mounts theatrical and musical theatre productions on the main stage of the 1100-seat Sette LaVerghetta Center for Performing Arts. Students build the scenery, construct costumes, hang and focus lights, and perform in these productions.
Recent productions have included Godspell, To Kill A Mockingbird, Songs for a New World, Our Town, Measure for Measure, Dead Man’s Cell Phone, A Little Night Music, Crimes of the Heart, Miss Julie, Proof, Once Upon a Mattress, The Fantasticks, Elegies, Sunday in the Park with George, and All in the Timing.
All seniors have the opportunity to present a capstone project that represents the culmination of their work at Marywood. This capstone can be an original play or musical, a show directed by the student, a production featuring the student, or another creative endeavor.
