Dr. Laura Ann Camlet Houser
Adjunct Faculty for the Theatre Program

Dr. Houser is a long-time member of the Marywood Community. She is a graduate of Marywood where she earned her Bachelor in Communication Arts Degree with a major in Musical Theater and minors in Dance and English. She went on to complete her Master in Communication Arts Degree with focuses in Technical Theater and Children’s Theater. She also earned her Doctorate Degree in Human Development with a concentration in Higher Education Instructional Leadership. Dr. Houser is an Adjunct Faculty member for Marywood’s Theatre Program.

You can often find Dr. Houser assisting with both main stage and black box productions on campus in the theatre. When Dr. Houser is not at Marywood, she works full time as the Vice President of Theater Operations at The Theater at North in Scranton. In addition to her full-time work at The Theater at North, Dr. Houser works part time as a stagehand for the I.A.T.S.E. Local 329 Stagehands Union at both the Scranton Cultural Center and Montage Mountain’s Concert Pavilion. She also serves as the Vice President of the Union’s Local. Dr. Houser works as a freelance theatre technician for the North Pocono School District, and teaches dance at Occhipinti Dance Company too.

Dr. Houser has a wide variety of experience in the performing arts, through which she developed a comprehensive knowledge of various aspects of theatre and dance productions in both academic and professional settings. She has extensive experience overseeing both front and back of house operations through her professional work behind the scenes and on stage with various theatre organizations. She has performed in and worked on hundreds of productions. She has appeared on stage as an actress and dancer, as well as on local television too. She has taught dance for many years and is trained in classical ballet, pointe, lyrical, liturgical, jazz, tap, modern, belly dancing, Broadway, and stage combat. In addition to appearing on stage, Dr. Houser has worked behind the scenes as a stage manager, director, choreographer, rigger, and house manager. Her theatrical design credits include: lighting, sound, props, scenery, costumes, hair, and makeup.
