Create Your Own Path With A Master of Science in Architecture Degree

Architecture is about more than buildings – it’s about understanding the past, engaging the present, and shaping the future. Marywood’s MS.Arch degree emphasizes creative exploration in an Area of Study that is aligned with their thesis interests. Students interested in pursuing a post-professional architecture degree will find a curriculum that empowers them to select Program Electives that support their research interests.

Students in our MSArch program benefit from:

  • Thesis studios in which to develop a design-research project

  • Program Electives in adaptive reuse, global urban ecologies, public interest design, history/theory, lighting and energy systems, game design, extended realities, and community-based projects

Program Highlights

Innovative Environment, Award-Winning Results

Marywood’s LEED Gold-certified School of Architecture building includes features like geothermal cooling, rainwater harvesting, and a green roof—putting sustainable principles into practice every day.

Our students collaborate across disciplines with peers in Architecture and Interior Architecture, gaining real-world perspectives from the start. Through the Center for Urban Studies, they also engage in projects that connect design with social change.

Recent awards include:

  • First Prize – Solar Decathlon Design Challenge, Attached Housing Division (2021)

  • Second Prize – Solar Decathlon Design Challenge, Retrofit Housing Division (2023)

  • Third Place – Workplace Wellness Category, AISC/ACSA Steel Competition (2021)

Real-World Connections and Career Success

Marywood architecture students actively participate in the Scranton First Friday gallery scene and the Observe Scranton Festivals, showcasing their work alongside community partners like Black Scranton Project for Arts and Culture, Endless Mountains Habitat for Humanity, Lackawanna River Conservation Authority, Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania, and Valley in Motion. They also gain practical experience through collaborations with top regional firms, including Alloy5, Fancy Parsley, Greenman-Pedersen, HC Architects, Richard Pedranti Architect, and Sordoni Construction Services.
