MUSOA Faculty and Students Awarded Graham Foundation Grant for Anthracite Journal

Faculty and students from the Marywood University School of Architecture (MUSOA) have been awarded a grant from the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts to support the inaugural issue of Anthracite Journal, a new student-led architectural publication.

Developed by MUSOA faculty Christopher Loofs and Gustavo Pulido Del Castillo in collaboration with a student editorial board, Anthracite Journal explores architecture through the forces that shape it, including material extraction, labor, infrastructure, the environment, and the stories that remain after industries decline.

The inaugural issue, titled Inheritance, invites contributors to consider what architecture receives from the past and what it carries forward. The Graham Foundation grant will support the production and printing of the journal’s first issue, while providing students with opportunities to gain experience in architectural publishing, editorial practice, and disciplinary discourse.

Anthracite Journal, Volume 1: Inheritance welcomes submissions from students, scholars, artists, writers, and practitioners. The open call for submissions is available through October 31, 2026.
