Published

James Eckler, Vice President and Dean of the Reap College of Creative and Professional Studies, and Jessica A. Quintana Hess, Assistant Dean of Global Initiatives & Programs, are contributing authors to an upcoming scholarly publication titled Vanishing Voices: The Future of Language Learning in Education Abroad. The volume is currently under final review with STAR Scholars Press and is scheduled for release this summer.

The publication originated from a global convening of scholars and practitioners held in October 2025 in Sevilla, Spain. Eckler and Quintana Hess attended the event alongside colleagues from across the United States and Spain, engaging in discussions focused on the evolving landscape of international education.

The book explores pressing questions about the future of language learning in education abroad, including how emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence are reshaping language engagement. Contributors also examine themes of identity, community partnerships, and innovative curriculum design within global learning environments.

Through its collection of perspectives, the volume aims to encourage new approaches to program development and foster continued dialogue among educators dedicated to advancing meaningful and culturally responsive language learning experiences in international education.
