A cooperative program with the Business, Music, and Communication Arts Departments, a bachelor’s degree in Arts Administration- Multimedia Communication is for students who have a strong affinity for visual arts and who plan to work work in arts management through galleries, museums, non-profits, and auction houses.

Combining a dual foundation in both art and business, an Arts Administration degree provides students with historical, experiential, practical, critical, and aesthetic information.

Arts Administrators run arts programs that cover a wide range of areas including painting, photography, dance, and opera, to name just a few.

Acquire skills for leadership roles in the industry for museums, non-profit organization, government agencies, and more.

Center for Multimedia Communication

Located in the Learning Commons, the Center for Multimedia Communication provides media tools necessary to publish an online newspaper; direct, product, shoot, or edit video and audio programming; create and publish a PR newsletter; work as on-air television or radio talent; create virtual sets; produce short films; manage social media accounts; broadcast live sporting events; and much more. Marywood's Multimedia Communication students start getting valuable experience from Day One, learning how to become versatile, ethical, and in-demand communicators.

Program Learning Outcomes

The Arts Administration major is for the student who has a strong affinity for the arts generally and plans to work in arts management. The program combines a dual foundation in a primary arts concentration (Art, Multimedia Communication, Music, or Theatre) and the business of the arts, which provides the student with historical, experiential, practical, critical, and ethical information. A secondary concentration in Art, Multimedia Communication, Music, or Theatre rounds out the course of study.

Through their primary and secondary concentration selections, the Arts Administration major participates in curricular and co-curricular activities, gaining hands-on experience and training at our on-campus art galleries; the campus television and radio stations; the student online news source; our film production club; in our ensembles; or in our annual theatre productions. Though it is not required, an internship in the arts is strongly encouraged.

The major in Arts Administration requires 30 credits in a Primary Concentration (Art, Multimedia Communication, Music, or Theatre); 15 credits in the Business of the Arts; and 15 credits in a Secondary Concentration (Art, Multimedia Communication, Music, or Theatre). A total of 60 credits are required for the B.A. in Arts Administration.

The Arts Administration major combines two areas of artistic interest with practical business applications.

The program's objectives are:

Develop skills in music or theatre, as well as a secondary artistic field;
Foster proficiencies in business administration;
Familiarize students with the standards for effective arts management.

Program Learning Objectives

Graduates of this program are prepared for a variety of arts-related applications in the business world. Opportunities exist in federal, state, and community arts agencies, and arts education programs.
