At Marywood, you will find positions such as clerical office work, and computer assistants and musicians for campus ministry, art gallery assistants, life guards, and child care aides. We also offer Graduate Assistantships for students pursuing a master's degree at Marywood University. Job descriptions, required skills, and contact information will be posted at the beginning of each semester.

Apply for a Work Study Position

Placements for Federal Work Study jobs are through Human Resources.

Federal Work Study Students are paid bi-weekly. You will be responsible for tracking your hours and obtaining your supervisor’s signature on the student electronic timesheet. You will also find a Student Employment Information Sheet that you should review. It contains important information including due dates for submission of completed bi-weekly electronic timesheets and pay dates.

  1. You need to complete the Student Employment Interest Form. You can indicate up to three posted jobs for which you would like to be interviewed.
  2. Financial Aid will confirm your eligibility for Work Study and notify you via email.
  3. Once you have been notified by Financial Aid for your eligibility, you are responsible for contacting the departments and scheduling an interview. Interviews may take place over the summer, and may be done in person, or remotely, at the department’s discretion.
  4. Department(s) will notify you and Human Resources if you have been selected for a position.
  5. Once hired, Human Resources will email you.  If you are a new employee, you will be sent new hire paperwork to be completed and returned to HR. If you are a returning employee, you will receive a Frevo contract to be completed. You may do this once you are notified that you have been hired, or when you arrive for the fall semester, but before your first day of work. You cannot begin work until all required paperwork is completed and submitted to Human Resources.
  6. The required paperwork that you will need to complete includes Federal Form I-9 for identification and Form W-4 for federal tax purposes. You are required to bring your original forms of identification with you, copies cannot be accepted. You will need to know your security number, and for direct deposit you will need to provide a voided check or your account and routing number. Here is a list of acceptable documents you may provide to Human Resources.

Supervise operation of SoA Laser Cutters and Digital Fabrication Lab Students will receive adequate machine and safety training and will be required to assist entire SoA student body in operating the various machines found within the lab Students will be tasked with general maintenance and cleaning of machines as well as recording data related to the machine's use. Reserved for School of Architecture upperclassmen.

This position serves as an integral part of the Alumni Engagement Office. Employees will receive graphic standards and training from the sitting graphics committee coordinator for the school using standard Adobe software. Employees will be tasked with general maintenance of a content calendar in the form of Instagram posts and stories with the planned expansion into other social media. Position is reserved for SOA Upperclassmen.

Note takers for the Office of Student Disability Services will be assigned to a course already on their schedule where a student requires peer notes due to their disability. The role requires the student to take comprehensive and accurate notes during lectures, discussions, and presentations. Notes should capture key concepts, examples, and important details discussed in class. Note takers are to compile, organize, and submit their notes to Brightspace at least once a week, ensuring they are accessible to the student(s) with disabilities. This may require that notes be typed.

Returning students must have a GPA of 3.3 or higher. GPA requirements are not applicable for first-year, first-semester students. Freshman students with strong note-taking skills are strongly encouraged to apply.

The Financial Aid Office Work Study will serve as a front-desk receptionist for the office. Responsibilities include greeting students and visitors of the financial aid office whether they stop by in person or contact the office via phone or email. Fielding questions and scheduling appointments for various members of the office. Manages the sensitive financial aid documentation coming in and out of the office; files and organizes student financial records. Answers questions regarding financial aid status, missing documentation, and eligibility for certain financial aid programs and/or awards. May perform other duties and projects as assigned by staff.

The Tutoring Center is hiring for the following positions! All tutors must maintain a 3.2 or higher GPA. Applicants may apply to tutor courses they are currently taking if anticipating earning a final grade of a B+ or higher. Grades will be verified and all applicants will be contacted for an interview. OVERVIEW:  The Office of Student Engagement is searching for front desk student staff. These positions are part-time working between 5 and 12 hours a week and must be (and remain) federal work study eligible. The front desk staff for the Office of Student Engagement are hired to welcome and greet students, staff, faculty, and visitors of the college, direct questions to the proper individual or department and exemplify all of the star qualities of a true leader and put the experience of the guest as a top priority.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:  Office of Student Engagement Front Desk staff monitor access to the office throughout the day, provide information for patrons, assist with event preparation, and fulfill designated duties as assigned by professional staff. Hired staff must possess good oral communication skills and be familiar with not only the Office of Student Engagement but Marywood as a whole. This position works primarily around a seven-day week with the effort to extend the hours of the Office. Work shifts cannot be more than six hours a day or exceed 12 hours per week. Staff must be able to lift 5 – 20 lb. as well as be energetic, positive, and portray great work ethic while having a great sense of humor. Front Desk staff must be able to multitask.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:  Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Monitor and organize incoming mail for student organizations
  • Answer questions via phone and in-person from patrons
  • Periodically do rounds within the Nazareth Student Center to ensure all areas are clean, expired/unapproved promotional materials are removed, and the building is functioning effectively
  • Must be able to lift 5 – 20 lb. boxes
  • Attend monthly staff meetings, workshops, training sessions (as necessary for staff development) and one-on-one’s
  • Wear proper Office of Student Engagement staff attire

    Housing and Residence Life

    The Residence Directors (RDs) are appointed by the Assistant Director of Housing & Residence Life.

    General Summary of Duties:

    The Residence Director is a live-in master's or doctoral-level student who is responsible for the operation of one or two residential areas. This position requires the Residence Director to reside in their assigned on-campus apartment throughout the term of their appointment. The Residence Director is charged with shaping the environment and experiences of residential students by providing services and programs focused on Marywood mission and core values. The Residence Director fosters an environment which enhances student intellectual, social, spiritual and personal development; provides educational opportunities and academic support for students. The Residence Director selects, supervises, evaluates and trains RAs; serves as a conduct Hearing Officer in adjudicating policy violations; serves on the University’s on-call rotation; and is expected to respond to emergency situations as needed. The Residence Director also serves as a resource person and as the primary institutional representative responsible for Residence Hall administration according to University philosophy and policy. 

    Essential Functions:

    The Residence Director is responsible for communicating Housing and Residence Life processes, procedures, activities, programs, issues, and concerns between the Housing and Residence Life Office and resident students.

    The Residence Director establishes a rapport with students within their assigned residential area and assists students in the adjustment to university life.

    The Residence Director articulates and implements University and Housing and Residence Life policies and will counsel, advise, and refer students when necessary.

    Serve as a member of the Marywood University Conduct team and serve in roles as assigned.  Understand and support the divisional protocol regarding the Student Code of Conduct.

    The Residence Director will assist with case management of students within their assigned areas providing check-ins and follow-up as needed.

    The Residence Director is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of Residence Assistant (RAs) staff and provides ongoing training, supervision, evaluation and discipline for their assigned staff.

    The Residence Director is responsible for efficient openings and closings of a residence hall, check-ins/outs that occur throughout the year, and all administrative duties associated with these processes.

    Plan, implement and participate in Residence Assistant selection, training, supervision and evaluation. The Residence Director will directly supervise Resident Assistants within their assigned areas, and is responsible for scheduling Resident Assistants for duty coverage of their assigned residential area(s) including week days, weekends, and breaks.

    Develop and demonstrate a multicultural awareness and contribute to cultivating an inclusive, diverse and respectful community. Promote a flexible, collaborative and inclusive work and living environment and engage in educational opportunities to increase awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion.

    Assume rotating on-call responsibility as assigned to support Housing and Residence Life.

    Serve on campus committees as appointed.

    NOTE: All students interested in applying for a Graduate Assistantship listed should read the Conditions of Appointment for Graduate Assistantships and Application Process prior to submitting an application.

    Once job descriptions and required skills have been posted, the application process opens in February each year.

    Assistantships will be in effect for the 2024-2025 academic year, commencing with the first day of the fall semester and terminating the last day of the spring semester.

    Students awarded full-time or part-time graduate assistantships will register for and complete a minimum of 6 graduate credits each semester and must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on studentaid.gov. For full-time graduate assistantships, the University will provide tuition remission for 4.5 credits for the fall semester and 4.5 credits of tuition remission for the spring semester. For part-time graduate assistantships, the University will provide tuition remission for 2.25 credits for the fall semester and 2.25 credits of tuition remission for the spring semester. Students with full-time graduate assistantships will work, on average, 20 hours per week, for a maximum of 640 hours per academic year, while students with part-time graduate assistantships will work, on average, 10 hours per week for a maximum of 320 hours per academic year. The tuition remission will not be credited to a student's account without a valid FAFSA on file with the Financial Aid Office. *International students are exempt from the FAFSA requirement.*

    Compensation is paid to students on two-week intervals. Graduate assistants may only perform work while the Fall 2024 semester and the Spring 2025 semester are in session.

    If you receive and accept a graduate assistantship, you relinquish any claim to graduate scholarship program awards for that academic year.

    Graduate assistants are expected to maintain a minimum GPA of 3.25 each semester. Current graduate students must maintain a cumulative graduate GPA of 3.25 to renew or receive consideration for a new graduate assistantship position.

    If you must resign from an assistantship prior to the end of your appointment (except in the event of illness or disability resulting in the inability to fulfill the requirements of the assistantship), the following conditions will apply:

    If your resignation or termination becomes effective at the end of the fall semester, you will forfeit tuition remission for the spring semester.

    If your resignation or termination becomes effective at any time prior to the end of your contracted term, your tuition discount will be prorated pursuant to the number of weeks remaining in the semester from the date of resignation or termination, and you will be responsible for repayment of any tuition balance due thereafter. The prorated amount shall be calculated by the Financial Aid Office and must be paid to the Cashier's Office within 30 days of the adjustment. You will also forfeit the remaining stipend pursuant to the number of weeks remaining in the semester.

    If you resign from your assistantship, it is strongly recommended that you give a minimum of two weeks notice in writing to your supervisor.

    The University reserves the right, after giving 30 days notice, to terminate the assistantship on the recommendation of your supervisor or dean if you fail to perform assigned duties satisfactorily, to meet academic standards set by the University, or to conform to the policies of the University.

    Graduate assistantships are not renewed automatically. It is the responsibility of the student to apply for these opportunities for the next academic year by the established deadline.

    Gross and/or willful misconduct or moral turpitude will result in immediate termination of the assistantship appointment.

    Marywood University abides by The Council of Graduate Schools' Resolution Regarding Graduate Scholars, Fellows, Trainees and Assistants. An acceptance given or left in force after April 15 commits the student not to accept another offer without first obtaining a written release from Marywood University.     School of Architecture

    The School of Architecture is seeking a full time Graduate Assistant in Architectural and Design Systems. The Graduate Assistant will conduct research on various scale Architectural and Design Systems, will assist faculty, administrators, and students during the systems construction phase. This position will offer to the Graduate Assistant the opportunity of gaining in-depth understanding of the many aspects of the subject matter. Furthermore, this position will prepare the Graduate Student for an active role in the practice of architecture and related disciplines. The Graduate Assistant will be responsible of the following tasks: 1. Work with several faculty members and administrators on various scale systems, 2. Conduct a number of case studies of system models from ideation to three-dimensional printing techniques with the aid of 3D printers, 3. Conduct quantitative studies on the quality of interior systems demonstrated through ergonomic and other performance analyses, 4. Conduct visual representation and physical model demonstrations on the impact of the proposed systems. 5. Collect and organize analyses results in the form of a report.

    School of Business and Global Innovation

    Working with MU staff and facilitators of our Chinese program with Zijing Education along with other partners to help facilitate our continued growth. This person would work directly with Admissions, IT, Registrar and other administrators on campus to facilitate student enrollment. Additionally, they will be working with faculty on class delivery in all aspects including translating lectures and powerpoints, assessing student success and helping deliver quality content to students.     Counseling and Student Development Center

    The Counseling and Student Development Center (CSDC) Graduate Assistantship will involve spearheading the development and coordination of programs related to "AOD" (Alcohol and other Drugs). This encompasses organizing Alcohol Education Classes to fulfill campus judicial requirements and implementing assessment and referral procedures. Additionally, the role includes coordinating the campus-wide Alcohol Screening Day in collaboration with Scranton's Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center.

    Responsibilities also extend to assisting in the development, revision, and delivery of CSDC wellness programs in areas such as Stress Management, Healthy Relationships, Sexual Assault Awareness, Body Size Acceptance, and Alcohol Awareness. This includes planning and facilitating activities during "Perfectly Imperfect Eating Disorder" and "Body Size Acceptance Week," involving coordination with CSDC staff, graduate trainees, and overseeing event advertisements.

    The graduate assistant will coordinate planning efforts with other campus organizations, ensuring the successful execution of activities throughout the week. Additionally, the role involves overseeing the startup of psycho-educational groups each semester, from advertising and member sign-ups to securing locations and coordinating logistics with graduate trainees serving as group facilitators.

    Collaboration with the Student Life Division of Marywood University, including Housing and Residence Life, Student Engagement, and Athletics, is essential. The graduate assistant will play a key role in developing, implementing, and maintaining CSDC advertising through various channels, including Facebook and Instagram accounts. The distribution of clinically appropriate resources, flyers, and folders, in collaboration with CSDC graduate trainees and staff, is geared towards increasing participation in program offerings while working to destigmatize and strengthen the community.

    Technological proficiency is crucial, as the graduate assistant will manage virtual program planning tools such as Frevo forms, Google platforms, and other associated technologies. This extends to the coordination of fulfillment client care, supervised by professional staff.

    In the absence of the Administrative Assistant, the graduate assistant will assume all designated duties, demonstrating the ability to manage and respond to a high volume of in-person requests and telephone calls. Adherence to ethical standards and federal regulations regarding confidentiality, strong organizational skills, and the capacity to multitask with supervision are paramount. The position requires a commitment of 20 hours per week.

    Psychology & Counseling

    The student should have a strong interest in professional counseling. The student should expect to engage in a collaborative learning and supervision experience, be prepared to share ideas, and ask questions. A major component of this assistantship will be working with faculty, undergraduate students, and supervisors. The student should demonstrate strong leadership skills and be comfortable with public speaking. Further, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to relate well with others is required. The student should have research interests related to the counselor's role in professional practice, teaching, research, and supervision.     The Director of School Psychology seeks an advanced psychology graduate student to assist with the daily management and operations of the Department's Psychological Assessment Lab, including organizing of assessment materials and equipment, overseeing, dispensing, and returning of assessment materials and equipment, and maintaining adequate levels of all Psychology and Counseling Department assessment materials and equipment (e.g., psychoeducational kits, manuals, protocols, iPads, digital scoring and interpretation programs).     Nutrition and Dietetics

    The primary duty of the full-time (20 hours/week) GA for the undergraduate and graduate programs within the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics will be to support the designated Nutrition and Dietetics faculty mentors with literature reviews, research, grant/project proposal writing, data collection and analysis, as well as with developing manuscripts, posters, and presentation slides. This will allow the GA to gain experience in all facets of the research process from proposal development and submission, to collecting and interpreting results, and manuscript development. They will gain experience with SPSS, and other quantitative and qualitative data analysis programs. The GA will also assist faculty with the development of programs that support research initiatives and/or departmental goals. Additionally, the GA will gain insight and experience in program accreditation practices by working with a program director to evaluate the current effectiveness of quality assurance (QA). The GA will assist with outcomes data collection and will develop effective QA data presentations, analyze the meaning of the data, and revise policies and procedures based on the data. The GA will also assist with enrollment efforts through recruitment, marketing, and social media activities for our undergraduate and graduate programs. Tasks include, but are not limited to, communication with prospective students, conducting tours of the campus and department, as well as preparing for and participating in recruitment activities (such as departmental Open House events). The time spent on each duty will vary each week. The faculty mentors will work closely with the GA to prioritize the weekly duties and manage their time. This GA will have a founder's mentality and will utilize their curiosity and creativity to collaborate with the faculty mentors to achieve the outlined goals.     The graduate assistant for the Office of Institutional Equity and Inclusion will work closely with the Director of Student Equity, Inclusion and Programming. Together they will develop programs and events for the Marywood community. They will support opportunities for training and development for our faculty, staff, and students. These will be developed in order to engage the community in cultural experiences, celebrations, and education. There is opportunity for the graduate assistant to conduct research and compile resources for the utilization of students, faculty, and staff. Additionally they will work to support the TRHT Center (Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation).     The Office of Community Service and Social Justice, located within Campus Ministry, seeks a full-time graduate assistant to support the administrative work of researching, planning, communicating, evaluating and facilitating all details related to the day-to-day operation of Pacer Pantry. The primary focus of a full-time GA will be coordinating Pacer Pantry, Marywood's campus-based food pantry. This involves work with student volunteers (promote, recruit, train, supervise), community partners (inventory, logistics, stocking items), and other campus departments such as Student Health Services to continue to improve upon the day-to-day operations of Pacer Pantry to meet the increasing needs of students facing food insecurity. In addition, this GA will work collaboratively with the Director of Community Service and Social Justice to research emerging trends and determine opportunities to more effectively respond to student needs, as recommended by the PA Hunger-Free Campus Coalition, of which Marywood is a designated institution.     S.T.A.R.S Program

    The S.T.A.R.S Graduate Assistant (GA) will perform a wide variety of tasks, for the implementation and coordination of the Student Together Achieving Remarkable Success (STARS) program 2024-2025. He/She/They will work 20 hours per week; split between Marywood University campus, and a nearby off-campus location for after-school programming that enriches the educational experience of local Latinx youth. The GA develops and executes innovative and interactive programming and events that optimize interpersonal skills and academic performance among the youth served and facilitate trustworthy connections between college and graduate student mentor volunteers and youth participants. Tasks will include researching multi-culturally attuned college and career readiness, core life skills and civic engagement programming and activities, along with developing needs assessment and program evaluation surveys. Likewise, GA, alongside the STARS program Director and Curriculum Coordinator, will be facilitating and leading college and career readiness weekly activities between mentor volunteers and youths, monthly youth and parent workshops, monthly Family and Senior Nights, and serve on the advisory committees. This position requires an understanding of, and willingness to, operationalize Marywood's mission and core values. The ideal candidate is someone with a high energy level and mature professionalism which result in an independent, self-propelling interest in service-oriented work. The individual must have a fine-tuned sense of integrity and privacy, since the person in this position is privy to information of a confidential nature. The individual will also be willing to learn and understand the institutional and systemic educational barriers that the Latinx community at-large faces and the importance of grass-roots programs such as STARS in advancing the Human Rights and Social, Economic, and Environmental Justice of this community.     As the primary liaison between the classroom component of the SOAR program and the university, the GA will spend most of the 10-hours with the SOAR students. In the SOAR classroom, the GA will assist with academic, technology, and social skills training under the direction of the SOAR classroom teacher. The GA will also help to train and supervise SOAR students as they perform their on-campus jobs. Approximately one hour per week will be devoted to record-keeping, updating the website, and assisting with faculty research.
