Published

Dr. Sandra Pesavento, Dr. Rachael Stevens, and Dr. Suzanne Galella of Marywood University recently presented their research at the Society for Information Technology & Teacher Education (SITE) International Conference, held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Their peer-reviewed study, titled “Meeting in the Middle: Strategies to Align Online Teaching with Student Needs,” explores the growing need to better align instructional practices with student expectations in online learning environments.

Drawing on both student feedback and instructor perspectives, the research identifies common disconnects that can occur in digital learning spaces. It also offers evidence-based strategies designed to improve student engagement, collaboration, self-management, and overall learning outcomes.

The presentation highlighted instructional approaches that foster greater flexibility, connectedness, and a stronger sense of belonging for students, while maintaining academic rigor and meaningful learning experiences. The study emphasizes the importance of balancing student support with high academic expectations in evolving online education settings.

The research was published in the official proceedings of the conference by the Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education (AACE), underscoring its contribution to the field of instructional technology and teacher education.

The SITE Conference is an internationally recognized gathering of educators, researchers, and technology leaders focused on advancing innovative practices in teaching and learning. The publication reflects Marywood University’s continued commitment to research, innovation, and excellence in online education.
