The Marywood University Art Therapy Department hosted an Art Therapy Symposium on April 10, 2026, bringing together current students, faculty, professionals, community members, and alumni for a day of learning and creative exploration.
The keynote address was delivered by alumna and Art Therapy faculty member Abigail Oxford, ATR-BC, LPC. Oxford presented “Beauty in the Imperfections: Transforming Found Treasures into Something New and Meaningful,” a talk centered on her artistic process and professional journey.
During her presentation, Oxford shared how her creative practice is rooted in collecting found objects during walks and transforming them into unique, meaningful works of art. She discussed her artistic origins and the role of imperfection and discovery in the therapeutic creative process.
Following the keynote, attendees viewed Oxford’s art exhibition and were invited to participate in a hands-on activity, creating their own meaningful pieces using provided found materials. The interactive experience highlighted the program’s emphasis on creativity, expression, and the therapeutic value of art-making.
