Become an S-STEM Scholar

Marywood University is the recipient of an award from the National Science Foundation (NSF) Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (S-STEM). This project will contribute to the national need for well-educated scientists, mathematicians, engineers, and technicians by supporting the retention and graduation of high-achieving, low-income students with demonstrated financial need. The goal of the program is to create an intentional, comprehensive, and cohesive framework for academic and social success for low-income STEM students with academic potential.

  • Through the NSF S-STEM program, Marywood University will recruit and support 12 biology, math, computer science, biotechnology, environmental science, and information security majors as S-STEM scholars

  • These S-STEM scholars will earn bachelor’s degrees in biology, biotechnology, math, environmental science, computer science, or information security

Unique Opportunities

  • Students are eligible to receive up to $9,800 per year for four years to help cover the financial costs of their education

  • Support for peer mentors and tutors to ensure the scholar is successful inside and outside the classroom

  • Support for career development and alumni mentoring in the scholars field

  • Support for STEM 101 and STEM 102 to help the scholar easily transition to college and learn about careers in STEM

  • Support for cohort building between the scholars

Marywood University has a long history of educating STEM professionals in the fields of biology, biotechnology, math, computer science, information security, and environmental science.

With support from National Science Foundation S-STEM funding, Marywood will provide a framework for educational success and excellence that enables S-STEM scholars to develop fully as persons and professionals in the STEM field.
