Marywood University is excited to announce the Stanley Cup will be on campus on Labor Day. The community is invited to attend the celebration of one of the most iconic trophies in all of sports on Monday, Sept. 1, from Noon to 2 p.m., at the Pascucci Pavilion within the O’Neill Center for Healthy Families.
This special opportunity is made possible by Marywood University alumnus Mike Joyce, the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for the 2024 and 2025 Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers. A proud 2017 graduate of Marywood with a degree in Exercise Science, Joyce was given a personal "Day with the Cup,” a long-standing hockey tradition that allows each player, coach and staff member of the winning team to celebrate in their own unique way. He chose to return to his roots and share this unforgettable moment with the Marywood community—bringing hockey’s greatest prize back to the university that helped shape his journey, giving Marywood students, alumni, and the entire community a chance to experience its glory up close.
“The Stanley Cup is one of the most recognized symbols of achievement in the world, and to have it here at Marywood is truly historic,” said Marywood University President, Lisa Lori, J.D. “We are proud of Mike’s accomplishments and grateful that he chose to share this incredible moment with his Marywood family. His success reflects the dedication, excellence, and spirit of service that define our graduates.”
The Panthers won back-to-back Stanley Cups with a win over the Edmonton Oilers in seven games this June. Joyce has been the head strength and conditioning coach with the Panthers since the 2022-23 season.
Since 1995, this celebrated tradition has allowed members of the winning NHL team to bring the Cup to their hometowns or meaningful locations. Always accompanied by the “Keeper of the Cup” from the Hockey Hall of Fame, this trophy that has traveled around the globe is now coming to Marywood.
The community is invited to attend this celebration, which will include the opportunity to:
