The Marywood University chapter of the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NSSLHA) was named the 2025-2026 Student Organization of the Year at Marywood University’s Annual Leadership Awards Ceremony.
The award recognizes a recognized student organization that has made a positive impact on Marywood through leadership, programming, service, or other activities. In addition to receiving the top student organization honor, the NSSLHA Chapter was recognized with the Community Service Event Award for its participation in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
The chapter’s accomplishments also received national recognition from the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association, which awarded the group Gold Status Honors for its work supporting community service, advocacy, fundraising, and the NSSLHA mission.
Throughout the 2025-2026 academic year, NSSLHA members participated in a variety of service and outreach initiatives. Their efforts included participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, organizing a collection drive for the Gino Merli Veterans Center, writing holiday cards for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and planning community activities for clients who receive services through the Marywood University Speech-Language and Audiology Clinics.
Members also worked to promote the fields of speech-language pathology and audiology through advocacy efforts focused on legislative changes and increasing awareness of communication and swallowing disorders.
“The students who are members of the NSSLHA Chapter go above and beyond in their service activities,” said Andrea Novak, Professor of Practice and advisor for the NSSLHA Chapter. “They are excellent examples of young professionals who strive to make positive changes in the community and the fields of speech-language pathology and audiology.”
The chapter’s multiple honors reflect the dedication of its members to service, advocacy, professional development, and making a positive impact both within the Marywood community and beyond.
