Lea Dougherty graduated from Marywood University (BSW and MSW). She worked in several social service agencies over the last 30 years including United Neighborhood Centers, Women's Resource Center, Diana T. Myers and Associates Consulting and Amy Clark and Associates. Lea worked with persons with behavioral health, intellectual impairments, persons with HIV, military families, homeless persons, batterers, survivors of abuse, at-risk teens, community organizing, psychoeducational and counseling groups, persons in recovery and others throughout my career. Lea never took the attitude that she didn’t want to or couldn’t work with someone.
Lea has been teaching social work classes at Marywood since 1995. She also taught counseling classes at the University of Scranton from 2004-2021. Since 2021, she has been teaching in BSW Program at Marywood University and is currently the Field Director. During her 30-year social work career Lea has done both direct service work with individuals, groups, communities, and grant writing. She has written over 100 grant applications for funding at the Federal, State, and Local levels. Grants have ranged from $500 to over 11,000,000. Lea has done program evaluation for grant funded programs and has been an external auditor for other organizations.
Between 2012-2018 Lea was a foster parent in Lackawanna County and she had 28 youth live with her. She became Legal Guardian to one and adopted another. God definitely placed these youth in her life for a reason. Lea has three dogs and a cat. She volunteers at a Food Pantry and an Animal Rescue Transport. Her life is guided by a quote from Margaret Mead: Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
