                                                            Helen Bittel earned degrees in English from Rutgers University (BA) and the University of Rochester (MA and Ph.D.). Her research interests include British Victorian literature (especially late-Victorian popular fiction), contemporary children's and young adult literature, and post-secondary pedagogy. She frequently presents work at the Children's Literature Association annual conference and has held several leadership roles with that organization. 
Dr. Bittel has worked at Marywood for over 20 years and is a past Chair of English. She currently splits her time between the English program and the Center for Transformational Teaching and Learning (CTTL), where she is the founding director.
She teaches courses in both literature and writing, including Feminist Writing and Rhetoric, Social Justice Writing and Rhetoric, Introduction to Literary and Writing Studies, Children's Literature, Young Adult Literature, The Nineteenth-Century British Novel, British Victorian Writers, and Victorian Women Writers.
