English: M.A. in Professional Writing
Why Professional Writing?
Marywood's M.A. in Professional Writing is unique to Northeastern Pennsylvania where you will learn how to write at an advanced level in a variety of professional settings, no matter your career interest.
The program features hands-on learning in professional situations, classroom discussions, and writer workshops that hone students' writing and give graduates a thorough understanding of techniques of writing and persuasion across a variety of media appropriate to a range of professional settings.
After earning your M.A. in Professional Writing, you will be able to:
- Think critically, analyze language thoughtfully, and communicate effectively
- Create responsibly researched and innovative content
- Write for a variety of real world situations, from business offices to courtrooms to political rallies to online media
- Use your skills ethically as global citizens and understand how writing can be a force in society

For 4+1, Marywood students from the following majors and minors with a minimum of a 3.5 GPA in the major or minor and 3.33 overall GPA are eligible to apply for the 4+1 program:

- Academic or Professional Writing Sample (6-10 pages, can be excerpted from a longer work)
- 2 letters of recommendation (waived for current students and recent alumni (i.e., students within two years of graduation)

Graduate Program: 3 Semester Full Time or 2 Year Part Time
- Earn your M.A. in two years or less.
- Evening classes offered.

Certificate in Professional Writing (12 graduate credits)
- Returning professionals can complete a 12-credit certificate.
