The Writing Center is staffed by peer tutors, Marywood students who understand the current challenges of academic writing, as well as a pofessional Writing Specialist. This specific center is transitioning to an appointment-only system. Please read services and protocols below before selecting the appropriate appointment calendar.

All writing tutors may assist students at any stage of the writing process in areas such as:
  • Understanding the demands of a writing assignment
  • Brainstorming topic ideas
  • Constructing an outline
  • Formulating a clear thesis statement
  • Clarifying ideas and wording
  • Strengthening vocabulary
  • Organizing paragraphs
  • Developing ideas
  • Integrating and citing sources
  • APA, MLA, or other required formatting
  • Learning to revise and proofread your own paper

The Writing Center does not:

  • Edit student essays
  • Give feedback via email
    • See under "Writing Specialist" for exceptions
  • Tutor content:
    • For example: Tutors can help with writing aspects of a philosophy essay, but they do help student to understand course content.
  • Monitor email accounts, phone, voicemail, or appointments outside of scheduled hours
  • Adjust schedules to accommodate students who waited until the last minute to seek help on an essay
