The drop-in Writing Center is located right outside Learning Commons room 263. 

Note: The Writing Center is closed during the summer months. Please check back at the start of the fall semester for hours. 

Help with Writing

Undergraduate Peer Tutors at the drop-in Writing Center will help you with various aspects of writing, including:

  • Understanding the demands of a writing assignment
  • Brainstorming topic ideas
  • Formulating or clarifying a thesis
  • Clarifying ideas and wording
  • Organizing paragraphs
  • Integrating and citing sources
  • Learning to revise and proofread your own paper
  • Please note: The Writing Center does not offer ESL/ELL support. Students who need help with their English language skills should contact Emily Coleman, Academic Support Specialist for English Language Learners at email: coleman.emily@marywood.edu or via phone at 570-961-4559

Peer Tutors are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Writing Specialist is available for students who need a more intensive level of support.

Information for MSW Students at Satellite Campuses:

Note: The Writing Specialist is not available during the summer months. Please check back at the start of the fall semester for hours. 

Students who are enrolled in the MSW program at satellite campuses can work via email with the writing specialist. The Writing Specialist offers tutoring services that are designed to help you improve your writing and master APA formatting and documentation. The Writing Specialist does not offer proofreading or editing services.

What will the Writing Specialist do for me?

      The Writing Specialist will: 

  • Offer tutoring services that are designed to help you improve your writing and to master APA formatting and documentation
  • Read your paper, focusing on the concerns you specify in your email request: organization, APA style and formatting, grammar, etc. 
  • Insert instructive feedback into your document using the Microsoft Word comment feature to help you improve your writing. If you do not have Microsoft Word, then you may use Google docs. If you do, please make sure to give the Writing Specialist the right to edit the document (email address: writingcenter@maryu.marywood.edu).
  • Provide links to online sources that offer rules and models for APA format and style, grammar, and punctuation
  • Return your paper to you via email

What Do I Need to Do?

  • Graduate students enrolled in the MSW program at our satellite campuses may contact the Writing Specialist at writingcenter@maryu.marywood.edu.
  • Please be aware that the Writing Specialist is available only on certain days and times, as listed below.
  • Please contact the Writing Specialist one week before your paper is due and allow 2 to 3 days turnaround time to receive your feedback. Please be aware of the Writing Specialist's limited hours, listed below, and plan to send your paper accordingly.
  • The Writing Specialist will provide feedback via email.
  • Please submit your paper in Microsoft Word. The Writing Specialist will insert instructive feedback into your document using the Microsoft Word comment feature. If you do not have Microsoft Word, then you may use Google docs. If you do, please make sure to give the Writing Specialist the right to edit the document (email address: writingcenter@maryu.marywood.edu).
  • Please specify your writing concerns: organization, APA formatting and style, grammar, etc.
  • Please consult the APA Tutorial  (ppt) for assistance in preparing your paper before you submit it to the Writing Specialist.
