Academic Camps

Environmental Stewardship Summer Camp

Environmental Stewardship Summer Camp

For children ages 10–14, this summer camp will educate students to be better environmental stewards, allowing them to embody Marywood University’s core value of Respect by caring for the Earth and all creation through a commitment to sustainability.

 Students will have the opportunity to explore some of the sustainability initiatives underway on Marywood’s campus! From learning about watersheds and mitigating stormwater to the importance of planting native plants, students will be able to have hands-on experiences at the IHM Center’s Land Restoration site. By learning about LEED buildings, alternative energy, and the 3 Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), students will learn about current sustainability initiatives, and how these practices relate to their everyday lives.

Students will be provided a snack, and are encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle.

Pottery + Sculpture Camp

Pottery + Sculpture Camp

Students will have the opportunity to throw pots on pottery wheels, as well as learn hand building techniques like slab building and creating coil pots. They also will learn how to construct figurative and abstract sculptures while they explore various hand building techniques.

The camp is designed to attract high school students interested in pursuing degrees in biology, biotechnology, and medical fields.  Students will be exposed to a variety of different techniques related to DNA and proteins to gain an understanding of the structure and function of the molecules. In addition, students will gain knowledge of applications used in medicine and the biotechnology industry regarding how DNA and proteins can be used to diagnose and treat disease.

Cryptology Summer Camp

Algorithms for encrypting and decrypting messages have been used since the time of Julius Caesar, who used them to transmit secrets during the Gallic Wars. Since that time, not only the military, but any person or organization that conducts financial business over insecure communication lines needs to employ complex encryption techniques. This camp will introduce students to cryptology, the study of encryption and decryption techniques that are in common use today. Cryptology is used by specialists in Information Security, a highly lucrative and fulfilling career and one in great demand today. And when the week is over, you will leave with your own program to write your own secret messages!

A condensed, weekend-long swim clinic. Campers will receive technical instruction and drill work from Marywood coaching staff and swimmers with the following schedule:

Friday:  Video Review, Freestyle, Backstroke
Saturday: Breaststroke and Butterfly
Sunday: Starts, Turns, and Underwaters
Video recording and playback will also be utilized for instruction, with each swimmer receiving a copy of their own video with notes from coaches for improvement. The conclusion of each session will also cover out of water topics such as dryland, nutrition, mental preparation, stretching, etc.  Attendees will be divided into two groups based on age.  Drills and topics of discussion will vary between groups. T-shirt and cap included!

This camp will focus on lacrosse skills with a lot of fun. Girls going into 5th-9th grade are invited for a three-day camp of instruction. We will develop stick work, dodging, individual and team offense /defense and include a scrimmage atmosphere by the end of the week. We will have daily competitions and a camper of the week giveaway. Mornings filled with lacrosse will be the best way to start your day. Each camper will receive a t-shirt and instruction from current college athletes and coaches. Girls lacrosse players are encouraged to bring their teammates and friends to enjoy three days of skill and development.

Boys Basketball Instructional Camps

Cost: $190.00 p/week (Early Bird Cost: $160.00 Until June 7th, Camp Week I and June 28th, Camp Week II)

The camp will be offered to boys 7-15 years old. Campers will be divided into groups based on age and ability. Each day, campers will go through a dynamic stretch, ball handling workout, six stations and one game set each morning. After lunch, there will be a lesson/skills clinic demonstrated by coaches and Marywood Men’s Basketball team members. Following the clinics, we will conduct a daily competition (Hot Shot, Free Throws, 1-on-1, etc.) and then complete at least 2-3 more game sets to conclude the day. The final hour of our day will provide a choice for campers to either swim or play supervised open gym. Dismissal from camp will be at 4 p.m. each day. We will invite parents to attend our awards ceremony on the last day of camp (Championship Friday). Each camper will receive a basketball, t-shirt and top-notch instruction from our Marywood Men’s Basketball players and staff.

This will be a three-day camp offered to girls from 9th grade to 12th grade. Each camper will receive a t-shirt and lunch will be provided each day. Campers will be divided into two groups (9th-10th) and (11th-12th) with some flexibility based on skill level. Each day campers will go through warm up drills, stretching, ball drills, individual drills and 4 -6 stations. After lunch, there will be lessons demonstrated by coaches and Marywood volleyball team members. Following the lessons, we will do team drills, run and explain game situations and finish with controlled scrimmages.

This will be a four-day virtual camp offered to all students in 9th-12th grades. Participants will have an opportunity to learn about esports in a variety of capacities: organized practices and scrimmages, training tips across multiple titles, learning about careers and production, and more. Participants will learn from coaches in individual and team drills. At the end of the camp week, matches will be broadcast for parents to watch live or afterwards as recordings.

Participants will receive instruction from the Marywood coaches, along with current players, through detailed skill work and competitions in the Insalaco Arena at Marywood University. Parent-Child teams will participate with fellow campers of appropriate age groups (based on child’s age/grade level) in competitions that incorporate skills learned throughout the camp. The skill work is designed to give both parent and child useful drills and techniques to take home and continue working on together. Most importantly, it is an opportunity to bond with your child/children through basketball and friendly, light-hearted competition.

The camp will provide soccer-based and other fun activities to all campers. The soccer-based instruction will be for all levels and based on the ability of each camper. The camp will provide individual activities as well as group activities. The Camp will be run by both coaches and our Men’s Soccer Players. The camp will also provide swim time, concession stand, and free time where we will watch soccer based highlights or short movie clips which are age appropriate.

A more thorough week long clinic. Campers will receive technical instruction and drill work from Marywood coaching staff and swimmers with the following schedule:

Tuesday = Freestyle and Flip Turns
Wednesday = Backstroke and Back Starts
Thursday = Breaststroke, Pullouts, and Open Turns
Friday = Butterfly, Underwaters, and Dive Starts
Video recording and playback will also be utilized for instruction, with each swimmer receiving a copy of their own video with notes from coaches for improvement. Compared to the weekend clinic in May, each stroke and topic will receive more time, allowing for more extensive drills and thorough critique. The conclusion of each session also will cover out of water topics such as dryland, nutrition, mental preparation, etc. Attendees will be divided into two groups based on age. This summer prospective one-day clinic will be held for high schoolers in 9th-12th who are interested in playing collegiate softball. This camp will offer instruction and help improve athletes’ skills in offense, defense, pitching, base running, and more. Athletes will be instructed by the Marywood coaching staff and team. A campus tour also will be provided.
