Matthew T. Balmer, Ph.D.

Dr. Balmer, presently serves as Associate Vice President, Global Quality Analytical Sciences, Merck Manufacturing Division, with footprint globally supporting Merck commercialization activities and troubleshooting for inline supply related issues, including direct oversight of all scientific platforms, including 300 leaders, staff scientists and contractors. Previously, he was Associate Vice President, Analytical Sciences, Product Research & Development at Sanofi Pasteur, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He also worked for many years at Sanofi’s Swiftwater, Pa. location, serving in various leadership capacities, and, prior to that, was a chemist with Calvert Laboratories, Inc., Olyphant, Pa., and Lancaster Laboratories, Lancaster, Pa. Dr. Balmer earned a B.S. degree in biology, magna cum laude, with minors in chemistry and environmental science, from Marywood University, Scranton, Pa. He holds an M.S. degree in biochemistry from the University of Scranton, Scranton, Pa., and an M.A. degree in organizational leadership with a certificate in servant leadership from Gonzaga University, Spokane, Wash. He has a Ph.D. degree in biological sciences from the State University of New York- Binghamton University, Binghamton, N.Y.
