School of Education

Marywood's educational tradition is more than 85-years-old, but that doesn't mean we take an "old school" approach to learning. Instead, our students benefit from innovative, personalized programs that balance theory and research with practical application of that knowledge in real school settings. We offer a variety of programs and teacher certifications, both online and in person. As an undergraduate, you'll begin field experience in local schools during your first year of study, have the opportunity to learn in first-rate facilities, find supportive faculty who are dedicated to your development as a teacher, and benefit from a program whose graduates are actively recruited. On the graduate level, a range of certifications, specialized endorsements, and advanced degrees meet the educational needs of practicing teaching professionals and future leaders in education.

School of Education Faculty

At Marywood, you will find a supportive faculty dedicated to your development as a teacher.

Field Experience

Field experience is a required component of Marywood's education programs. It provides teaching candidates with first-hand experience in the real world of classroom teaching.

Teaching candidates are required to participate in a field placement (urban, suburban, or rural) every semester from freshman through senior year.

Prior to the student teaching semester, candidates participate in an intensive, supervised "block" practicum. This block is two days for a minimum of one semester. Candidates are able to apply methods coursework directly to practical application in the classroom.

Candidates must accumulate at least 190 field hours before student teaching. This includes a minimum of 12 weeks of pre-student teaching.

Important Note: No student is allowed to complete a field placement without all current clearances on file in the Field Office.
