Reading Specialist: Instructional Certification

Earn a Reading Specialist Certification to Teach Literacy with or without a Master's Degree

Teachers, are you passionate about literacy? Do you have a desire to help those who have difficulty reading?

If so, our Reading Specialist Certification Program may be right for you. If you wish to concentrate in the field of reading, but do not want to pursue a master's degree (or you already hold a master's degree), you may obtain a Reading Specialist Certification by completing the 24 credits of concentration courses in reading.

  • A balance of theory and research
  • Teach all aspects of literacy development
  • Reading clinic on campus
  • Concentrate in Reading with or without a master's degree
  • Consist of 24 credits

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • “B” average during undergraduate study or demonstrated potential for graduate work
  • Completed application
  • Submit an essay discussing your career objectives and why you want to pursue a career in education.
  • Official, sealed transcripts
  • Two or three letters of recommendation
