Dr. Monica Law firmly believes that people are an organization’s greatest asset. She is passionate about helping people find, and reach, their true potential through both personal and professional development. She lives by the mantra “she believed she could, so she did.”
Dr. Law began her career 25 years ago working as a Registered Radiologic Technologist in an acute care hospital. It was here that she began to gravitate to the people side of business, very interested in patient care. She grew most interested in patient care after reading a landmark report published in 1999 by the U.S. Institute of Medicine entitled To Err Is Human: Building a Safer Health System. This report resulted in increased awareness of U.S. medical errors. It was at that time that Dr. Law decided to purse a Ph.D. and study medical errors.
She was fortunate to attend, and earn, her Ph.D. from The Pennsylvania State University in Learning and Performance Systems with an emphasis in Human Resource Management and Training and Development. While at Penn State, Dr. Law worked as a trainer, being part of a team that focused on implementing a strategic visioning process within organizations. She continued to focus on the human element in business and used her experience as a trainer to develop, and implement, training programs focused on building effective work teams.
Upon completion of her Ph.D., a natural progression into higher education emerged. Dr. Law is currently an Associate Professor of Management and is fortunate to continue living her passion, helping her students find, and work toward, their true potential. Her students, both undergraduate and graduate, are the future leaders of corporate America. Being able to be part of their personal and professional journey is one of Dr. Law’s greatest joys in life. The courses she teaches focus on the people side of business. Specifically, Human Resource Management, Leading People in Organizations, Organizational Behavior, Ethics and Corporate and Social Responsibility, Managing Performance, Women in Leadership, Training and Development, and Introduction to Management.
Dr. Law is dedicated to her own professional development, therefore keeps an active research agenda. She has published papers in the areas of medical errors, leadership styles, team leadership, online pedagogy, and hiring and retention practices of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Her current research interest, and working manuscript, focuses on improving employee engagement in today’s business environment.
In her spare time, Dr. Law enjoys photography, yoga, gardening, traveling to new destinations, kayaking, wandering around antique shops, rock collecting, and watching her two teenage sons play soccer, lacrosse, and baseball.
