Katie joined the Marywood Academic Success team in Fall 2021 as the University’s Writing Specialist. After obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Penn State University in 2008, she enrolled as a graduate student at Marywood to pursue her true passion, teaching. Since then, she has acquired various certifications, credentials, and both teaching and tutoring experience in writing, literature, psychology, sociology, and American history for grade levels ranging from seventh to the doctoral level.

Since 2015, Katie’s career has centered around student writing in higher education. She has taught various writing courses at both Penn State University and Lackawanna College in addition to tutoring, training professional tutors, and creating instructional content as Lackawanna College’s Lead Writing Center collaborator. As of Fall 2022, Katie will begin teaching several ENGL160 courses at Marywood in addition to her Writing Specialist responsibilities, which include personally tutoring students and managing the peer writing tutors on campus.

Outside of academia, Katie teaches yoga, aerobics, weight training, cycling and is a certified personal trainer. What Katie’s eclectic career pursuits have in common is that every position centers around working with people, paying close attention, adjusting as needed, communicating effectively, and specifying instruction to individuals both in and out of a group setting. Her passions reflect a desire to be a lifelong learner, and she encourages her students to do the same. When she is not in front of a classroom or working one-on-one with people, Katie and her husband Michael enjoy spending time with their pets and rescuing animals in need.
