Applying to college is a big step, especially when it is far from home. At Marywood University, we’ll make the application and transfer process as easy as possible with an array of support services. Our staff is available to assist with integrating our international visitors to campus life at Marywood and to support international students' welfare and interests while attending our university.

    Applying for International Students

    The $35 application fee is waived when you submit through the Marywood online application, Common Application, or Apply Coalition with Scoir. If you wish to complete a paper application, please download it here to print it.

    Undergraduate International

    Completed applications for the fall semester (late August through December) must be received by June 1; completed applications for the spring semester (January through May) must be received by November 1.  Begin the process early and beware of all steps that must be taken in order to gain acceptance.

    The following documents are required to complete the application process.  All documents submitted in connection with the application become the property of the University.

    • Official high school transcript
    • Official high school leaving certificate/diploma, if applicable.
    • Official college transcript/leaving certificate, if applicable
    • Official test scores (see below)
    • One letter of recommendation (eg. professor, headmaster/headmistress, mentor, etc.). You may use our recommendation form or submit electronically
    • Citizenship/Visa Information
    • Certification of Finances with bank statement (see below)
    • Already studying in the United States?  You will need the International Student Transfer Authorization.

    Include original, unopened transcripts of all academic work, including transfer coursework. Transcripts should be sent from the issuing high school or college to Marywood University. An official high school or college signature or seal must appear across the back flap of the unopened envelope.  Applications will not be considered without official transcripts. 

    Translation of Non-English Transcripts
    In addition to sending official transcripts, all non-English transcripts must be translated by a certified translator such as World Education Services, Educational Credential Evaluators and International Education Evaluations, LLC.  All information on the transcript must be translated verbatim.

    If English is not your first language please submit official English proficiency scores taken within the last two years. Marywood University requires that prospective undergraduate students achieve one of the following English proficiency requirements:

    • Minimum TOEFL score: 71 
    • Minimum IELTS band score of 5.5 
    • Minimum PTE Academic score: 48 
    • Minimum Duolingo score: 90

    Submit an essay of at least 250 words.

    Essay topics may include:

    • Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.  
    • The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?
    • Reflect on a time when you questioned or challenged a belief or idea. What prompted your thinking? What was the outcome?
    • Describe a problem you've solved or a problem you'd like to solve. It can be an intellectual challenge, a research query, an ethical dilemma - anything that is of personal importance, no matter the scale. Explain its significance to you and what steps you took or could be taken to identify a solution.
    • Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others.
    • Describe a topic, idea, or concept you find so engaging that it makes you lose all track of time. Why does it captivate you? What or who do you turn to when you want to learn more?
    • Share an essay on any topic of your choice. It can be one you've already written, one that responds to a different prompt, or one of your own design.

    The Certification of Finances form must also be accompanied by a bank statement on official bank stationary, showing proof of sufficient funds. These forms must be mailed, not faxed to Marywood.   

    An acceptance and student visa will not be issued without the official bank statement and Certification of Finances form. 

    Once all official documents required for admission are received, we will process your application for evaluation.  If you are accepted by the Admissions Committee, an acceptance packet will be sent to you.

    All documents submitted in connection with the application become the property of the University.

    Although international students are not eligible to receive federal and state financial assistance, Marywood University does offer scholarships to international students based on merit.  Marywood does not offer full tuition scholarships, however partial scholarships are available. Currently, students may qualify for up to $23,000 USD per year, with the highest amount going to the most academically talented students.

    Graduate & Doctoral International

    International Applicants should follow the deadlines listed below, unless you are interested in a program listed in the "Program Specific" list above. Deadlines for those programs supersede any deadlines listed below.

    • Summer of current year: April 1

    • Fall semester of current year: June 1

    • Spring semester of following year: November 1

    Before Beginning the Application Process

    • Nutrition and Dietetics Internships/Distance Education Dietetic Internship Applicants:
      Submit application through Dietetic Internship Centralized Application Services (DICAS) and also complete the Dietetic Internship Match through D & D Digital.
    • Physician Assistant Applicants: Must submit the application for admission through the Central Application Service for Physician Assistants (CASPA).

      Two letters of reference from persons familiar with your educational background.  Please note that three letters of recommendation are required for students applying to the Architecture, Interior Architecture, Psychology (General Theoretical), and Ed.S. in School Psychology programs. Letters should be sent to Marywood University's Office of Graduate Admissions with an official signature across the sealed flap of the envelope.  Reference forms can also be submitted electronically via the online application. If you have not attended college for three or more years, please contact the Office of Graduate Admissions for guidance.

If you have not attended college for three or more years, please contact the Office of Graduate Admissions for guidance.
