Things to See at Marywood
Marywood was historically named an Arboretum in 1997. In October 2021, Marywood University became a member of the first international cohort of Laudato Si' Universities by the Vatican Dicastery for the Promotion of Integral Human Development, in support of Pope Francis’ 7-Year Journey Towards Integral Ecology—an action-oriented and holistic approach that addresses seven ecological and social challenges in the world.
From its polished marble floors to its spectacular domed ceiling, the Rotunda, the focal point of Marywood's Liberal Arts Center, is a campus landmark. Finished in 1937 by Roman artist Gonippo Raggi, the historic murals illustrate the history and principles of Christian education. The Hall of Presidents, which displays portraits of all Marywood's presidents, serves as the main entrance to the Rotunda and Liberal Arts Center.
Marywood is home to four Art Galleries: The Mahady Gallery, the Suraci Gallery, The Maslow Study Gallery, and the Kresge Gallery. Exhibitions are often accompanied by artist's illustrated lectures and gallery talks in addition to award presentations, featured displays, special projects, and Artist Lecture Series. Marywood also houses two permanent collections of fine and decorative art.
Athletics & Recreation
Marywood University is an institution whose academic quality is enhanced by a competitive athletic tradition and a comprehensive recreational program. Twenty-two women's and men's varsity teams are sponsored, and many intramural and recreation programs are also available.
The Sette LaVerghetta Center for the Performing Arts is home to an 1,100 seat theatre. Several times a month, you can catch a performance here or in the terrace-level Black Box Theatre. All Marywood students have the opportunity to audition for theatrical productions, as well as for the University Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Chamber Singers, and several other performing ensembles.
