Marywood University's Spring Production Invites Theatre Goers to Visit "Wonderful Town"

SCRANTON, PA-February 12, 2008.

The days of jazz and jitterbug may be the stuff of nostalgia, but one jumpin' and jivin' event is in store in the hippest corner of Scranton! Marywood University has announced the spring production of Leonard Bernstein's Wonderful Town running February 22 and 23, at 7:30 PM, and February 24 at 2:00 PM.

Based on Ruth McKenney's "My Sister Eileen" series, Wonderful Town possesses a traditional and innocent feel, reminiscent of the glory days of The Great White Way. The musical follows sisters Ruth and Eileen Sherwood as they embark on a new adventure in New York City, after leaving the provincial lifestyle of Ohio. A quirky and unique supporting cast adds sugar and spice to the story, as the pair look for love and success in the depression era Greenwich Village. Wonderful Town is a showcase of talent by classic musical theatre composers and writers, with music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, and script by Joseph Fields and Jerome Chodorov.

General admission is $15; $7.50 for students and seniors, and free with Marywood ID. For tickets or more information, contact the Marywood University box office at 570-348-6211, extension 2161.
