MASLOW COLLECTION COMING TO MARYWOOD:
$2.3 Million Gift Includes Major Endowment to University

SCRANTON, PA-May 21, 2007.

Marywood University President Sister Mary Reap, I.H.M. announced today that the University has received a significant gift in support of its Insalaco College of Creative Arts and Management. At a news conference held at the University's Mahady Gallery, Sister Mary told the audience and members of the media that Mr. Richard Maslow and the Maslow family have agreed to a long-term loan of The Maslow Collection to Marywood University.

In addition to prints by noted artists Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein and Robert Rauchenberg, The Maslow Collection now includes over 500 works from 178 artists, most of whom are represented by four or more works, with a number of artists having as many as 15 works in various media included in The Maslow Collection.

In addition to the art work, Marywood will receive, as part of the $2.3 million agreement, financial gifts to renovate space within the Shields Center for Visual Arts to house The Maslow Collection and to establish a million dollar endowment to the University. The endowment will be used to support the collection and its use as an educational tool by the University as well as provide for a Collection Curator and programmatic opportunities for Marywood students and the greater community.

Mr. Richard Maslow, who began the Collection said, "The Maslow Family is delighted to have found a home for The Maslow Collection, where these works can be appreciated, studied and utilized in a meaningful way to provide education, stimulation and enjoyment to the academic community of Northeast Pennsylvania and to the community at large."

Speaking from Marywood's perspective, University President Sister Mary Reap, I.H.M., observed, "This is a tremendous day, not only for Marywood University and our students, but for the community as well. Pieces from The Maslow Collection, which will now be housed here at Marywood University, have been exhibited all over the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and museums throughout Europe. To have a collection of this magnitude available to our students is an extraordinary opportunity."

"After more than seven years of working with Marywood University Arts Administration students, it makes perfect sense that The Maslow Collection would find a meaningful new home at Marywood," acknowledged Robert Schweitzer, curator of the collection. "Many of these students have curated exhibitions from The Maslow Collection for presentation at the Marywood galleries. The potential to develop new and expanded programs in arts administration and curatorial studies, as well as provide on-going exhibitions both on campus and in the community, meets both the goals of The Maslow Collection and Marywood. This perfect fit will provide for the best use of one of the region's most important art resources."

Program enhancements will encompass presentations at the art galleries, as well as coursework within the University's art history, arts management, and studio arts disciplines. The construction of the new Maslow Study Gallery, as well as renovations to provide the additional storage necessary to house The Maslow Collection in Marywood's Shields Center for Visual Arts, is scheduled to begin at the end of May.
