Scholarships At Marywood

Why Endow a Scholarship at Marywood?

When you endow a scholarship, the impact of your gift will pass directly to our students, most of whom would not receive an education without financial help. About 90% of our students receive aid in the form of scholarships, loans, grants and/or work-study programs. Your help will make an enormous difference in the lives of these future leaders--whose contributions, in turn, will enrich communities and professions worldwide. An endowed scholarship is a permanent tribute.

How Much Does It Cost to Endow a Scholarship?

You can begin endowing a scholarship at Marywood for an initial investment of as little as $5,000. There are many ways of doing this, and our Director of Planned Giving can show you a number of options. After that, you can take up to five years to pay the balance of $20,000 required for a fully-endowed scholarship. Contributions can continue beyond the endowment, of course, and can be added at any time, so the scholarship will continue to build over the years. (This is often done in the form of additional recognition and memorial gifts from friends and family members.)

How Do I Go About It?

The process of establishing a scholarship is easy. You simply define your intentions with an agreement signed by you and the President of the University. In the agreement you may establish criteria to be used in awarding the scholarship (e.g., students in a special department or discipline, or from a particular geographic area). You may also name the scholarship as you wish. This gives you an opportunity to provide a lasting memorial for grandparents, parents, a child, a favorite teacher or others you might choose to honor. Once this process is complete, your scholarship becomes part of Marywood's restricted endowment, and it will remain as such, providing students with vital support for as long as the University exists.

Can a Deferred Gift Be Used?

Yes, any of the gifts mentioned in the Estate Planning section can be used.

In this case, the minimum gift is $30,000.

The Benefits of Giving

The benefits of establishing a scholarship are many. Here are just a few:

  • The joy of knowing that you have provided financial help for generations of Marywood students.
  • Creation of a lasting memorial to loved ones or to yourself.
  • Combining your assets with those of the University enabling the endowment to grow and Marywood's important mission to continue.
  • Benefit from one or more of the many tax advantages which the government allows in order to encourage charitable contributions.

How Do I Begin?

Once you decide that you want to help Marywood's students, the rest is easy. The options for planning and funding a scholarship are many. Chances are that establishing a scholarship is more affordable and less complicated than you think…and more important than you can imagine.
