Celebrating Leadership - Celebrating
Success
In 1988, Marywood began the most ambitious
development effort in its history-IMPACT 2000. The
campaign with an initial goal of $55 million successfully
concluded with more than $58.5 million in commitments to
the University.
Phase One of IMPACT 2000 was completed
in June 1996. With contributions of more than $30.2
million coming from alumni, friends, trustees, parents,
and the I.H.M. Congregation, the commitments to Phase One
supported a variety of critical programs and resources at
Marywood, including
|

|

|
- Increased scholarship
assistance for qualified students :
|
- Installation of a campus-wide computer
network system
|
- The Fricchione Day Care Center is located
on a hilltop on the campus of Marywood
University. The Center was made possible
through the generosity of the Fricchione
family in memory of their parents and opened
in September 1991 as a model for effective
multi-dimensional care for the children of
students and working parents.
|

|
The Fricchione Center is licensed by the Pennsylvania
Department of Public Welfare and has been accredited by
the National Association for the Education of Young
Children since 1992, a distinction, which only 5% of day
care centers nationwide have achieved.
Children enrolled at the Fricchione Center benefit
from many Marywood campus resources such as the library,
curriculum lab, gymnasium, art galleries, theater and
media center for regularly scheduled weekly activities.
The children also benefit from Marywood students
currently enrolled in elementary education, music therapy
and foreign languages who provide additional learning
opportunities. The Fricchione Center serves as a
placement site for practicum experience for Marywood's
Early Childhood Education students.

|
- Essential renovation and additions to the
Center
for Natural and Health Sciences, which
more than doubled in size and acquired new
state-of-the-art equipment. Today it houses a
Molecular Cellular Biology lab, Microbiology
lab, Chemistry lab,
|
Anatomy and Physiology lab, greenhouse, computer
laboratories and a multimedia auditorium.
Phase Two of IMPACT 2000, which ended
June 30, 2002, realized an additional
$28.3
million in
commitments and enabled Marywood to accomplish additional
critical projects:
|
|

|

|
- Renovation of Regina Hall including
installation of central air conditioning.
|
One of the largest visual arts centers on
the East Coast, the facility includes a variety of
sophisticated equipment for art studies at Marywood: a
foundry with metalworking facilities, sculpture and painting
studios, weaving looms, blueprint machines, a photography
studio with B&W and color darkrooms, an advanced
lighting studio, a ceramics studio, and computer labs with
all the latest design and graphics software.
|

|
- The Tony Domiano Early Childhood Center is
located on the campus of Marywood University. It
serves approximately 60 children in pre-school
and kindergarten classes.
|
Founded in 1976, the Domiano Center provides children with
a "prepared environment" that fosters their abiding
curiosity and presents learning as a joyous and happy
experience. The Domiano Center teaches a diverse mix of
subjects including foreign languages, math, classical music,
art appreciation, cooking, sign language, art and crafts,
language arts and prayer geared toward children's
understanding.
- The Keith
J. O'Neill Center for Healthy Families was
dedicated in October, 2002. It is the first of
its kind in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The
Center provides programs and opportunities for
university/community collaboration and includes
a state-of-the-art Human
Performance Laboratory to enhance the
learning experiences of health profession
students.
|

|
The Center for Healthy Families provides needed
equipment for health-related research. Students from
Marywood's nursing,
nursing
administration, athletic
training, physician
assistant and nutrition
and dietetics programs utilize the laboratory.
The Center for Healthy Families was made possible in
part by a federal grant from the Health Resources and
Services Administration (HRSA). Senators Arlen Specter
(R-Pa), Rick Santorum (R-Pa) and Congressman Don Sherwood
played significant roles in securing the $1.36 million
grant from HRSA. It is a joint effort of Marywood
University and the Northeast
Pennsylvania Women's Health Alliance, a cooperative
effort of Marywood University, Maxis Health Care/Marian
Community Hospital and Mercy Hospital.
Additionally, the center integrates
academic programs, community outreach and research and
provides critically needed, affordable outpatient health
care services to underserved residents. Outpatient health
care services include cardiac rehabilitation, physical
therapy, nutrition and weight control assessment,
detection and treatment of osteoporosis, and nutrition
counseling.
- Enhancement of the Endowment Fund.
The success of
IMPACT 2000 will contribute to the success of future
generations of Marywood graduates.
Campus Master Plan
As we approach our 90th anniversary, the
challenge of recruiting the best and brightest students to
Marywood requires that we support excellence in all areas of
our institution's mission - teaching, service,
state-of-the-art facilities and technology. In January 2002,
the Marywood Board of Trustees approved a new Campus Master
Plan, a blueprint for new construction, infrastructure,
renovations and campus enhancement for the next ten
years.
The
master plan acknowledges the importance of Marywood's
tradition and the spirit of its campus culture through its
integrated approach. Highlights of the Campus Master Plan
include:
New facilities
- A new Chapel, currently being renovated in Loughran
Hall, is designed to reflect the importance of Marywood's
identity as a Catholic University. This new chapel is
scheduled for dedication in Spring 2007. The current
chapel space in Regina Hall will be reassigned.
- A new athletic facility, the Robert J. Mellow Center
for Athletics and Wellness, has been completed.
- A new student residence, Loughran Residence - a part
of Loughran Hall, has been completed. This facility
houses 325 resident students in suite style
accommodations. The residence includes student lounges, a
24-hour computer lab, and it allows immediate access to
the University Chapel.
- A new Conference Center is being completed as part of
the Loughran Hall renovations. This space will provide
state of the art facilities for the University's growing
conferencing operations.
- A new Center for Learning Resources will serve as a
central information center on campus, providing
additional support for academics. Located in the heart of
the campus, it will be designed to create and reflect
community at Marywood.
- A new Welcome Center will be built at the front
entrance to campus.
Renovations
- The Liberal Arts Center will be completely
renovated.
- Nazareth Hall will be renovated to provide additional
services for students including activities, foodservice
and retail operations.
- The first floor of Immaculata Hall will be converted
back to its original use as residential space for
students.
- The first floor of Regina Hall will be
renovated.
- Enhancements to campus "green space" will include
improved pedestrian pathways, the creation of gathering
spaces throughout the campus and creating outdoor space
for community interaction.
- There will also be enhancements to the entrance to
campus on Seminary Avenue.
The future is
ours together.
