The Memorial Arch, built in 1902, marked the entrance to the original Motherhouse, which was the location of St. Mary's Seminary. Marywood University is sponsored by the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The Congregation was founded on November 10, 1845, in Monroe Michigan, by Sister Theresa Maxis Duchem, I.H.M, and Father Louis Florent Gillet, CSSR.
