Act 101 Program
Policy Statement
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Higher Education Opportunity Act has
provided funding to colleges and universities for academic support
services since 1976 under the title Act 101. To qualify for these
benefits, students must be residents of Pennsylvania, have financial
need and the ability to meet college admission requirements. Students
are accepted to the program on the basis of academic potential,
motivation and goals.
The Act 101 Office at Marywood University offers a variety of
services to students in the program.
Comprehensive counseling. Counseling, a fundamental
component of Act 101, helps students realize their potential and
educational goals.
Strong tutorial dimension. Great emphasis is placed on
the uniqueness of each student's academic needs.
Academic Excellence Center and Writing Center. Students
are provided with assistance in developing and expanding all areas of
communication.
Summer program. Marywood's Act 101 Program includes a
summer component that offers credits for completion of a required
Writing Skills course.
Procedures
The University attempts to identify students who qualify for the
program. Others, who believe they might quality, are encouraged to
seek information at the Act 101 Office.
