Purpose and Scope The Marywood University Policies and Procedures Manual contains a written record of approved and current expressions of administrative philosophy and direction. As such, it provides the Marywood community with guidance and assistance in the conduct of University affairs. The manual includes those policies and procedures that are generally applicable to more than one department or affect one or more constituencies outside the department. Internal operational procedures of a single office are not within the scope of the manual. Policies and procedures contained in this manual are
official policies and procedures of Marywood University.
They are fully effective until changed by applicable
University actions. Procedures are statements that provide for the orderly implementation of established policies through prescribed specific actions to be taken. Responsibility The President, as chief executive officer of the University, approves policy statements. Such statements must be consistent with policies adopted by the Board of Trustees and must be within the limits established by the Board. The Policy Committee of the University, serving in an advisory capacity, makes recommendations to the President concerning policies and procedures. The Office of Secretary of the University serves as the Office of Policies and Procedures to provide the necessary administrative support and direction to evolve, approve, and disseminate policies and procedures. Areas in need of new or revised policies and procedures are identified by anyone within the Marywood community. Administrators participate in the development process and assure adherence to approved policies and procedures by personnel within their areas of organization. Preparation and maintenance of the Marywood University Policies and Procedures Manual is the responsibility of the Secretary of the University. Organization and Distribution of the Manual The Marywood University Policies and Procedures Manual is divided into major sections: Legal Authority and Governance, University-Wide Policies, Presidential Affairs, Academic Affairs, Business Affairs, Student Life, University Advancement, and Administrative Services. Policy statements are coded. Generally, the first digit of the code identifies a major organizational area of the University, followed by codes that identify a department, a function within the department, and the policy number. Codes are assigned by the Secretary of the University. The manual is referenced through a Table of Contents and an alphabetical Index. It is distributed to University personnel on the computer network. There is no general hard copy distribution. Authority The Marywood University Policies and Procedures
Manual was established by direction of the President of
the University on September 1, 1997. Marywood
