Scholarly journals are periodicals
whose goal is scholarly communication: providing the means by which
scholars and researchers share their findings with one another and with
the public.
Scholarly journals contain
primary, research articles describing new research or ideas; these are
written in a formal manner that includes background information, methods
used, results and/or interpretation and significance.
The research and review articles
in scholarly journals always have footnotes or bibliographies.
Research articles are
peer-reviewed: experts examine submitted articles before
accepting them for publication
Examples:
Journal of Abnormal Psychology, Journal of Biomechanics, Science
and Sociology
