			Established in 1994, the Office of Diversity Efforts has two objectives: to promote appreciation of diversity and intergroup accord on campus, and to provide assistance to the regional community in addressing diversity concerns and developing intercultural awareness. The Office's mandate includes cultural diversity and women's issues. Other campus offices or organizations address other areas of diversity such as disability or sexual orientation.  The Office organizes eight to ten events each year focusing on diversity, either celebrations of the riches of various cultures, or efforts to address the problems of racism or sexism. The programs range from musical, theatrical, and scholarly presentations to diversity training sessions for area professionals. The effectiveness of these efforts is enhanced by collaboration and co-sponsorship with regional organizations such as the Lackawanna Bar Association, the African American Arts Alliance, the Lackawanna County Diversity Coalition, and regional colleges, universities, and school districts. The Office has been successful in acquiring some financial support from public sources such as the Pennsylvania Humanities Council, and from corporate sources such as Bell Atlantic.
