Our Website is Responsive
When a website is responsive, the layout and/or content responds (adapts) based on the size of the screen it’s presented on. A responsive website automatically changes to fit the device you’re reading it on. This includes desktop and laptop computers, iPads, Kindles, iPhones, Android phones, etc. Because our website works on so many devices, there are some challenges to make the content look nice on all screen sizes.
Our Website is Collaborative
Every single department at Marywood contributes to the information that is put on our website. Each department has an assigned Web Content Editor that goes through training to learn how to update our website. The Web Team is here to support our content editors and any requests from departments. Website Policies.
Our Website is Dynamic
On the Marywood website, we use chunks of content that are entered into a database using predefined fields. We refer to this as "structured content". By entering the information in this way, we are able to "spit out" the content in different ways. A few examples are:
- alphabetically ordered lists of faculty
- news and events sorted by date
- tagged news posts
Using databases makes it easier for our content editors to fill in the available fields (such as office location, e-mail address, photos) and have all of that information display professionally on the site, in order, without having to know HTML or CSS to make it look right. If an item is deleted or unpublished from the database, it will automatically be removed from the website in all places where that content is displayed.
