Meet Dr. Bittel!
Dr. Helen Bittel has been teaching English at Marywood for almost fourteen years---intro courses as well as upper-level classes in 19th-Century British literature and children’s/YA lit. Her recent research explores how our culture of surplus safety impacts children’s literature, which is, after all, traditionally about kids figuring out who they are and what they are capable of by having unsupervised adventures.
A cat person, longtime vegetarian, coffee addict, born-and-bred Jersey girl, and an Aquarius, she enjoys hiking, crocheting, travel, card games, and listening to podcasts. Dr. Bittel lives in the neighborhood with her husband and daughter, the loophole champion of the fourth grade. She plans to vote Granger-Lovegood in 2016.
