Center for Architecture Studies

The Center for Architecture Studies occupies a spacious, state-of-the-art facility in the heart of campus adjacent to the University’s highly acclaimed Art facilities. The facility showcases sustainable design principles. It features a primary circulation spine connecting two sides of the campus, two levels of studios, and a two-story Commons surmounted by a continuous skylight that harvests abundant natural light throughout the day. The Commons serves as the building’s “agora” - an open, shared, central space for educational exchange among all students and faculty. Each student has an individualized space designed to accommodate a laptop computer, drawing board, storage area for personal items, and integral pin-up space.

Additional facilities include fully-equipped woodshop, plaster-casting room, central printers and plotters, a Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Lab, flexibly-furnished classroom space, and a reference library adjacent to the design studios.

The facility also houses a 25 meter swimming pool and racquetball court.

Bethany Hall

Bethany Hall

Adjacent to Sette LaVerghetta Center for the Performing Arts, Bethany Hall provides another specialty housing option for 8 male students. Its consists of double and triple rooms as well as one single room. The residence boasts two full kitchens, common areas and laundry facilities. Students must maintain a certain QPA and be in good disciplinary standing in order to qualify for specialty housing.

Fricchione Day Care Center

The Fricchione Day Care Center, a child development center, built in 1991, is a great place for kids to learn and grow. It is open to the children of Marywood's staff, faculty and students, as well as the children of employees from the Marian Convent and St. Joseph's Center. Other children may be enrolled if space permits.

The purpose of the center is to provide quality child care to those who wish to pursue career, personal or educational goals. It is founded on the belief that children learn through interaction with other children and adults. The program strives to meet the developmental needs of each child within a multi-age group setting. Experiences are provided to enhance the cognitive, affective and physical development of each child.

The Fricchione Center is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

Immaculata Hall

Immaculata Hall is home to the President's Office at Marywood University. The second and third floors of this building are specialty housing for upperclass students. All rooms are singles with  shared community bathrooms. There are also kitchens, lounges and laundry facilities on both floors. The building also houses Institutional Research, the Office of Information Technology, and faculty offices for the Departments of Foreign Languages, Philosophy, and Religious Studies.

Originally built in the 1950's and named Alumnae Hall, it was later renamed Immaculata Hall to honor Sister M. Immaculata Gillespie, Marywood's first dean.

Learning Resources Center

Learning Resources Center

The Learning Resources Center, built from 1964-1968, houses a collection of over  220,000 books and bound periodicals and over 15,500 print and electronic journals. On the third floor is a fully equipped computer lab and a training alcove. User Support Services provides free computer workshops for faculty, staff and students in order to familiarize users with the applications Marywood supports.

Liberal Arts Center

Liberal Arts Center

The Liberal Arts Center is home to the Social Sciences and English Departments and the School of Social Work. Classroom wings extend from the grand Rotunda in the center. The second floor is home to the Academic Excellence Center, the Office of Honors and Fellowships, Student Support Services, Career Services, Act 101 and the Office of Retention and Advisement. Loughran Hall

Loughran Hall

Renovated in Fall 2006, Loughran Hall houses both upperclass and first-year students. The building is air-conditioned and has a complete sprinkler system. The building meets all ADA codes with compliant singles and is wheelchair accessible. The floors are co-educational by wing, with card access controlling gender accessibility. There are laundry facilities and study and a TV lounges on every floor. Student Health Services, a 24-Hour Computer Lab and a 24-Hour Lounge Area are available on the entry floor, separate from the secure residence facility. All rooms are suite style with shared bath and have one basic cable jack, one internet port per occupant and a local phone line. The lounges are wireless.

The west entrance of the building houses the Swartz Center for Spiritual Life and the Conference Center. This includes the offices of Campus Ministry and Collegiate Volunteers and the Marian Chapel where Mass is celebrated daily. The Conference Center is operated by the Office of Conference and Events Marketing. It offers facilities, dining, multimedia and housing for regional conferencing.

Madonna Hall, which first opened in January 1964, is a co-ed residence that houses upperclass students. Newly renovated in 2007, Madonna Hall offers:

Maria Hall

Maria Hall, originally known as the Carriage House, was one of the original campus structures. In 1926, it was converted for use as the Science Building. In the years following World War II, the building served many purposes. It now houses the Development area of University Advancement.

Across the street from Immaculata Hall is McCarty Hall, another specialty housing option on campus. McCarty Hall houses 13 upperclass students in several suites with shared bathrooms. There is also a computer lounge, kitchen, common area and laundry facilities. Students must maintain a certain QPA and be in good disciplinary standing in order to qualify for specialty housing.

Dedicated in November 1941, McCarty Hall was once used as a practice House for students majoring in vocational home economics.

The McGowan Center for Graduate and Professional Studies was renovated in 1998. Previously known as the Center for Human Services, it is home to the College of Education and Human Development along with the Counseling/Student Development Center and the Business and Managerial Science Department. The building has state-of-the-art classrooms, computer labs and controlled lab settings for the Psychology and Communication Sciences programs. Students from the Education Department may utilize the equipment and services found in the Curriculum Lab, which houses hundreds of school textbooks, teacher manuals and other teacher materials.

The Atrium area serves as a casual meeting area for students with groupings of comfortable chairs and pleasant courtyard view. A quiet study area is adjacent. The Atrium Cafe is also located here.

The Memorial Arch, built in 1902, marked the entrance to the original Motherhouse, which was the location of St. Mary's Seminary. Marywood University is sponsored by the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The Congregation was founded on November 10, 1845, in Monroe Michigan, by Sister Theresa Maxis Duchem, I.H.M, and Father Louis Florent Gillet, CSSR.

Nazareth Student Center

Constructed in 1964, the Nazareth Student Center is a campus focal point for all in the community to attend varied educational, cultural and social events and meetings. On the terrace level adjacent to the Main Dining Room is the Commuter Lounge; the offices of Chartwells Dining Services; the mail distribution area for resident students; and, the Private Dining Room. The first floor houses two large meeting areas - the Latour Room and the Lynett Board Room; the University Bookstore; and, the Center for Student Activities and Leadership Development which accommodates the Offices of the Student Government Association and of the Dean of Students and the Director of Student Activities and Leadership Development. The Fireplace Lounge, a popular student gathering area, is on the first floor adjacent to the trendy café-style eatery - The Connection, as are a drop-in computer lab - The Hub and a gameroom. Performing Arts Center

Sette LaVerghetta Center for Performing Arts

The Sette LaVerghetta Center for the Performing Arts is home to the Marywood University Communication Arts and Music, Theatre and Dance Departments. The main attraction of this building is the 1100 seat theatre. Several times a month you can catch a performance here or in the terrace-level Black Box Theatre. The Sette LaVerghetta Center for the Performing Arts holds productions in the fall and spring of each academic year. All Marywood students have the opportunity to try out for shows along with the University Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Chamber Singers and several other performing groups. On the second floor of the building are dozens of private practice rooms for music majors. All music students are expected to practice for several hours each week.

Built in the 1950's as Assumption Hall, this building was known as the Performing Arts Center for many years. In 1998, it was renovated and rededicated in honor of the Sette ad LaVerghetta, and is now called the Sette LaVerghetta Center for Performing Arts.

Printing and Mailing Center

One of the original structures on campus, the building formerly known as "Martha's Cottage" became Marywood's Post Office in 1958. During the 1980's the building was doubled in size to include the campus Mailing Center. Today it is known as the Printing and Mailing Center.

It contains a fully operating post office serving the entire campus. You can buy stamps, purchase money orders and also send and receive mail and packages from here. The mailing center coordinates the printing of many university publications.

Regina Hall

Regina Hall

Regina Hall is a traditional residence hall. It houses undergraduate women and men. Rooms are mostly suites; two rooms connected to one bathroom. Each floor has a community lounge, a kitchenette, and a quiet study lounge. The second floor also has a large lounge with a TV, fireplace and plenty of comfortable furniture. Laundry facilities and more lounges are located in the basement level.

Originally named O'Reilly Hall, this was the first student residence built at Marywood in the late 1920's. After the Motherhouse was destroyed by fire in 1971, the area that had once been the formal dining room was converted for use as a chapel until the Marian Chapel was established in Loughran Hall's Swartz Center for Spiritual Life. The space was then converted and renamed the Liguiori Center and used for conferences and receptions.

Rotunda

The Rotunda

From its polished marble floors to its spectacular domed ceiling, the Rotunda, the focal point of Marywood's Liberal Arts Center, is a campus landmark. Finished in 1937 by Roman artist Gonippo Raggi, the historic murals illustrate the history and principles of Christian education. The Hall of Presidents, which displays portraits of all Marywood's presidents, serves as the main entrance to the Rotunda and Liberal Arts Center.

Science Center

Center for Natural and Health Sciences

This is the Center for Natural and Health Sciences, home to several majors including, Math, Science, and Nursing & Public Administration. The building contains state of the art classrooms equipped with the latest technology. There are also many labs available for experimentation and research in science-related fields. The Comeford Theatre is one of two large lecture halls on campus. 

Constructed as Our Lady of Good Counsel Science Hall, a three story building, in the 1950's, it was renamed after the addition of a new wing and extensive renovations in the early 1990's.

Spiritual Life Center

Swartz Center for Spiritual Life

On April 21, 2007 the Swartz Center for Spiritual Life was dedicated and the Marian Chapel was blessed. During an extensive 18-month renovation, the former Marian Convent Chapel was converted to an open and welcoming center of worship, meditation and contemplation for the entire University community, along with visitors and friends.

Along with the chapel, the Swartz Center for Spiritual Life includes the Campus Ministry office suite, a community room and a narthex. This area is the center of spiritual outreach to the campus. Adjacent to this focal point is the new Conferencing and Community Outreach Center. This state-of-the-art facility can be used by the University or the community at large.

Although the entire Chapel has been enhanced and made ready for student use, the biggest change is the installation of a two-story semi-octagonal Mondrian-like pattern of stained and clear glass surrounding the altar. At night, the sanctuary serves as a "lantern" on the hill, calling all to the spiritual center of campus life.

As music is a central part of worship, a new pipe organ and Steinway piano are housed in the chapel. The Second Vatican Council asserted that the musical tradition of the church is a treasure of immeasurable value. Along with liturgical use, both instruments are an important part of the Music Department's program of sacred and secular offerings to the campus and community.

The creation of the Marian Chapel bears witness and brings a sense of completeness to the I.H.M. mission of higher education. It returns to Marywood the heritage of the chapel in the Motherhouse that was lost to a fire in 1971.

Along with the Swartz Center for Spiritual Life and the Marian Chapel, the former Marian Convent is the home to Loughran Hall, a modern 325 bed student residence hall which opened in September 2006.

Studio Arts Center

Michael and Dolores Insalaco Center for Studio Arts

The Michael and Dolores Insalaco Center for Studio Arts was dedicated in 2001. This building houses various artistic disciplines from painting and drawing to ceramics, paper-making, weaving, and metallurgy. It contains painting, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, and sculpture labs along with a state-of-the-art photography and computer labs.

Visual Arts Center

Shields Center for Visual Arts

The Shields Center for Visual Arts serves Marywood's art students. It has lab space for computer graphics, art history, and art therapy. On the first floor is the Mahady Gallery which has changing exhibits on a monthly basis. All senior art students are required to have an exhibit in the Mahady Gallery. The Maslow Collection, a study-gallery of contemporary art developed by Marilyn and Richard Maslow and on loan to Marywood, is also housed on the first floor. Upstairs is the Suraci Gallery which houses Marywood's permanent collection of art along with a display of changing exhibits.

The Shrine of Saint Joseph, built in 1936, is located in front of the mirrored windows of the Visual Arts Center. Students commonly find peace, shelter, and a few quiet moments on the steps of this beautiful shrine.

Woodland Apartments

Woodland Townhouse Apartments

Built on the lower campus in 1978, the Woodland Townhouse Apartments, originally three separate housing units, were remodeled in 2001 into a single townhouse complex of 22 units. Each unit houses four or five upperclass students. Students may apply to live in this specialty housing unit in the junior and senior years.
