This $9,500 grant will provide a unique opportunity that will allow us to better serve Veterans on campus and help them transition back into civilian/campus life. The Student Veterans Alliance was awarded a Certificate of Recognition from the County of Lackawanna Board of Commissioners, on April 23, 2014, for their work in the community, most recently Operation Tails for Troops.
Sarah Afriecq and Rod Merkley were accepted into the Army Clinical Psychology Internship Program at Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Fort Gordon, GA.
Sarah is a member of the Marywood Student Veteran Alliance and was an officer in the Army Health Professions Scholarship Program. She also worked as a psychology intern at the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center.
Rod is the former president of the Marywood University Student Veteran's Alliance and was a medic in the Army Reserves for ten years. He deployed to Iraq and spent two years mobilized to Landstuhl Hospital in Germany.
Both Sarah and Rod will be promoted to the rank of Captain in the United States Army, and plan on working as psychologists with veterans and service members throughout their careers.
