Research Initiation Funds

 

Funds are available for a limited number of research initiation grants that are intended to assist faculty in the development or implementation of a pilot research project. The pilot project is expected to be the basis for external funding to continue the project.

Funds may be used to support project expenses such as supplies, equipment, printing, and hiring of student research support. Awards may not be used for faculty stipends, course releases, or travel.

Eligibility: All tenure-track, tenured, clinical, and pro-rata faculty are eligible to apply.

Awards: Maximum award is $4,000 for full-time faculty and $2,000 for pro-rata faculty. We anticipate making 3-5 awards.

Application Deadline: May 2, 2014

Notification Date: June 13, 2014

Funds Available: July 1, 2014

Grant funds must be expended by June 30, 2015

Report on use of funds and status of project: September 30, 2015

Proposal for external funding of project: September 30, 2016 (This may vary depending on deadline of funding agency.)

Priority: Faculty hired in the last 3 years and projects that involve student researchers and demonstrate high potential for external funding and project continuation.

In the event that the funds necessary to support the successful proposals exceed the funds available, priority will be given to those applicants who have not previously received a research initiation award. Faculty who have not fulfilled a previous obligation to submit a proposal for external funding or have not submitted a report on the use of previously awarded funds are not eligible to apply.
