Hello and welcome to the home page for Marywood’s department of Psychology and Counseling.
As you navigate this page, I think you will notice some unique strengths in what we have to offer potential graduate and undergraduate students. The first is the variety of programs available. We train professionals to be future researchers and clinicians with degree programs in School and Mental Health Counseling, school psychology, and clinical psychology (Masters & Psy.D.). The majority of these programs lead to professional certification and a license to practice, which can be a crucial advantage when seeking employment. Training for several of these programs can start at the undergraduate level, in which we focus on the scientist/practitioner model. This model emphasizes methods for generating new knowledge, which can then be applied to clinical cases with the confidence that comes from empirically supported interventions.
A second unique strength is our faculty, who are supportive, extremely knowledgeable and competent as researchers and as teachers. My colleagues and I take special care to stay in touch with the experience students are having as they navigate their training. Our doors are always open and we are committed to the success of those we have in our classes. This commitment produces results. Our doctoral students are often placed at some of the most prestigious and competitive internships available. And our Masters students are regular scholarship and award winners at the state and national levels. Upon graduation, Marywood alumni are competitive and highly sought after new employees.
It should be clear that I personally have a great deal of pride and confidence in my colleagues and our programs. I am quite sure that both are one of the finest in the country. If you you take some time to review our offerings, I think you will agree.
