Students, staff, faculty and visitors meet monthly for lively discussions on wide-ranging topics.
Typically, the assembled group propose topics and then decide democratically which will be the focus of the session's discussions; thereafter the topic is addressed from all angles, with everyone getting their fair say. Sometimes there are scholarly presentations - but even these allow for lots of discussion afterwards.
The Socratic Society started meeting in 2008 and officially acquired club status in 2009. It is presided over by an Executive Council of three students, along with a faculty Chancellor.
