User Support Services provides support and training in a variety of computer applications including the i5 (Administrative Computing), e-mail, the Web, word processing, desktop publishing, data analysis, spreadsheets and database management. Training facilities are located on the third floor of the Learning Resources Center.
This division also provides service to students utilizing computer labs with help desk, media and field support. Computer labs can be found in each major classroom building (Liberal Arts Center, Center for Natural and Health Sciences, Center for Performing Arts, Studio Arts Center, Visual Arts Center, Center for Healthy Families, McGowan Center). Computer assistance is generally available in these labs whenever a semester is in session.
All labs are available on a drop-in basis whenever they are not reserved for classes (reserved class hours are posted either inside or directly outside the lab). Applications include Microsoft Office (an integrated suite which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher, Outlook), Adobe Creative Suite (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Fireworks, inDesign, Go Live), SPSS, Quark Express, Visual Studio, Foodworks, GeriMenu, Inspiration, Kurzweil 3000, and other specialized software in the various disciplines. All labs are equipped with laser printers and scanners and most have DVD/CD-RW drives.
Specifically, User Support Services provides the following to faculty, staff and students:
- Hands-on workshops in supported applications available on a first-come, first-served basis.
- A "first line of defense" Help Desk service (340-6070) for reporting technical problems or asking technical questions (you can also send an e-mail to helpdesk@marywood.edu).
- A special series of Technician Days conducted at the beginning of the academic year which gives students the opportunity to have personal machines looked at and professional advice provided in order to solve problems.
- Online training in Microsoft Office 2007 applications.
