Marywood will host "Weighing the Facts: Promoting Awareness, Knowledge, and Understanding of Eating Disorders" on Wednesday, February 27, from 7 to 9 p.m., in the Latour Room, Nazareth Student Center. Admission is free.
Tracie Pasold, Ph.D., assistant professor of psychology and counseling, will discuss eating disorders, including signs and symptoms, causes, treatment and tips for helping friends and loved ones who might be suffering from an eating disorder. Dr. Pasold's educational seminar is taking place in conjunction with National Eating Disorders Awareness Week.
"Acquiring knowledge about eating disorders is extremely important," Dr. Pasold said. "Most people don't realize that having an eating disorder is a psychiatric illness, and help is available. Eating disorders are becoming more of a prominent public health issue, and the public needs to be educated about it."
According to Dr. Pasold, one out of ten Americans either suffered or has known someone who has suffered from an eating disorder.
