For Rick Hoffenberg, music is more than sound: it's pure emotion. Hoffenberg, assistant professor of music and choral director, has been making music for most of his life, and sharing it is his passion.
"I want people to feel moved and uplifted," Hoffenberg said. "I like to consider things from an audience point-of-view."
The Marywood University Chamber Singers Christmas Concert will be held on Friday, December 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Marian Chapel at the Swartz Center. Admission is free.
When creating a program, Hoffenberg says he often likes to include a centerpiece—a pivotal song or composition—from which the entire program rests. Moreover, he finds his creative space by interpreting and reinterpreting classics. Doing so gives audience members a chance to explore different musical interpretations.
"I think it is fun to have a different interpretation on the same piece of music," Hoffenberg explained. "It's eye opening for the students who come. They have the opportunity to hear different types of compositions and composers."
