Aikido Classes Offered To Local Community

SCRANTON, PA-September 8, 2008

Marywood University announced today that Aikido classes will be offered to the community on its campus every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, from 6-7 p.m. in the Robert J. Mellow Center for Athletics and Wellness.

Aikido is the newest martial arts practice from the Japanese tradition, with over a million practitioners worldwide. Aikido differs from other martial arts in that practitioners seek to defend themselves without causing injury to their attackers. An aikidoist trains to apply various wristlocks, arm pins, or unbalancing throws to neutralize aggressors without serious injury. Aikido is not a sport, and there are no competitive tournaments.

The class will be taught by a fourth degree black belt and certified United States Aikido Federation Instructor, Sensei Charles Barnes. There is a $2 facility use fee. For more information, please contact (570) 499-8920 or cbarnes@markcsi.com
