Atlanta, GA – The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced its winners for the 2007-08 Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll Monday, with Marywood University’s women’s basketball team ranking 16th in all of NCAA Division III. This award, given in NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA and Junior College/Community College, awards teams throughout the nation that carry the highest grade point averages (GPA) for the entire season based on the nomination submitted by WBCA-member head coaches.
“I would like to say congratulations to each and every one of these teams for producing some impressive cumulative grade point averages,” said WBCA CEO Beth Bass. “These numbers would be notable for one student-athlete alone, but for an entire team to compile overall GPAs such as this is truly remarkable. I tip my hat to these programs and wish continued success both on and off the court.”
Marywood, the Colonial States Athletic Conference’s (CSAC) lone representative in the WBCA’s Academic Top 25, carried a 3.415 grade point average. Coach Tara Macciocco’s Pacers started the 2007-2008 campaign with a school-record six straight wins and finished with a 13-12 overall record. The Pacers will return all but one player next year.
“We’re proud to represent the CSAC on the WBCA’s Academic Top 25” Macciocco said. “Like all programs, we strive to be the best both on and off the court. We had a turn-around season on the court this past year and at the same time our players proved they can handle the academic workload Marywood offers” she added.
