On Saturday, March 23, Marywood will host its 5th Annual Charity Wheelchair Basketball Game for St. Joseph's Center. The event will be held at the Mellow Center for Athletics and Wellness. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the game starts at 6:30 p.m. General admission is $5, while children and students with an ID will be admitted for $3.
The Marywood men's and women's basketball teams will be playing in wheelchairs against the Allied Forces of Allied Services, and all proceeds will benefit St. Joseph's Center in Scranton, PA.
Kevin Kuna, assistant director of student support services, says the charity basketball game has been growing yearly and that hosting the event is a good way to promote awareness of those who have spinal cord injuries.
"Both teams will be playing the game in wheelchairs," Kuna said. "I think it gives the players—as well as the audience—a better appreciation for those with spinal cord injuries."
