TODAY: Groundbreakings for New Aquatics Center and Woodland Residence Halls

Marywood University will hold two groundbreakings today; the new Aquatics Center and Woodland Residence Halls.

The new Aquatics Center will be next to the Mellow Center for Athletics and Wellness at 11:30a.m. The Woodland Residence Halls will be next to the baseball field and will begin at 1:30p.m. They are both scheduled to open in Fall 2010.

The new Aquatics Center represents the third phase of a $25 million expansion of Marywood's Athletics and Recreation program facilities and will feature:

  • 17,000 square feet of competitive and recreational space.
  • 8- lane, NCAA regulation board
  • Two one-meter diving boards
  • Competition gutters
  • Raised platform and bleacher seating for 200 spectators
  • Safety center office
  • Team locker rooms

The new center will provide recreation and competitive opportunities for the campus community, as well as for regional schools and organizations.

The Woodland Residence Halls will contain twelve new units. Each unit can house ten residents. However, it is planned to initiate the new facility with eight residents per unit with use of the additional bedroom as a study room.  The Woodland Residence Halls will generate approximately eighty new beds.
